"VidOn.Me" XBMC build with Allwinner A10 HW-acceleration
#31
Vidon.me recently let us know they are donating a few of their new boxes (2 or 3) to the XBMC team to play around with. Obviously this increases their chances of broken stuff being fixed - wanting to fix the system you have running in your own home is powerful motivation !

I think it will be a Cortex™-A7 CPU and a SGX544mp2 GPU (Allwinner A31) but unsure until it is delivered - it could also be the Dual-Core Cortex-A7 ARM CPU and Mali400mp2 GPU (Allwinner A20).
Pretty sure it is going to be Allwinner either way - I'll keep you guys posted.

Nice. A20 and A31 should both be better for support than A10.

Great news, support for the A20 would be godsent. I don't know why, but they are pretty much the only ones available for sale in Argentina

Allwinner A10, A13, and A20 SoC's all uses the same type of CedarX (CedarV VPU and CedarA APU via libve) for hardware accelerated video and audio decoding.

http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=154492

So if you get the CedarX Video Processor Unit working on A10 then it should also work on A20, and vice verse.

Allwinner A31 SoC is the first to support Android's standard StageFright (libstagefright) via OpenMAX, and I guess the A31 will support MediaCodec in the future

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=169379

Because Allwinner A10, A13, and A20 is so popular, CedarX is listed among the high priorities of FSF http://www.fsf.org/campaigns/priority-pr...ngineering

Quote:These are projects which are a high priority for the free software community and which will require reverse engineering work.

If you are interested in working in one of these areas, or have suggestions for projects that should or shouldn't be on this list, please email us at [email protected].

Also see our other High Priority Projects.

This list is in priority order.
Video Processing Units

VPUs, also known as Video Decoding Units, are often the last hurdle to fully-free SoC. By replacing these nonfree dependencies, we can make low-power devices that respect users' freedoms.

...

CedarX Audio and Video Hardware Accelerator
The CedarX Video and Audio processing unit, found in Allwinner SoCs (A10, A13 and A20) require nonfree software, which consists of low-level firmware plus codecs. We need to replace the low-level firmware through reverse engineering. The codecs are for published standard formats, so free codecs can be developed without reverse engineering (or by adapting existing free implementations of those formats).

Does anyone have an APK that is not on 4Shared? I swear I used to be able to figure out their site despite the Chinese but they managed to make it completely incomprehensible

Thanks will try that.

As for the A31, that should have libstagefright so Vidon.Me may not be needed.

vidon.me just published A20 and A31 versions on their website
http://vidon.me/download/android42-Vidon...0-free.apk
http://vidon.me/download/android42-Vidon...00-pro.apk

About to test the A20 version now. Someone from the dev team ought to follow up about sources as they clearly claim it's XBMC based.

It installs and starts up just fine but reliably crashes me back to the Android Launcher when I try to play a MKV on my A20 device.

Might just as well not bother.

I have an A20 box, I will try it and see. I hate having 2 paper weights (A10 and A20)
TV Mosaic on Windows 10 as PVR Backend |  1 RaspberryPI 3 Client (LibreElec) | Amazon FireTV box | 5 Amazon FireTV sticks | FireTV Cube | 2 Nvidia Shield TV

Not exactly
So I have Mele A2000G player. It is A10 based.
It's great shame but public XBMC do not support hardware decoding for A10. HW decoding works with external player (MX player etc) only. But HW decoding with MX player -works only local files and do not work with DLNA/UPNP. Samba share works only with tricks. IOt works only if I mount samba folders with CFS mount, and MX plyer "see" it like local files.
I tried http://vidon.me/download/vidonme.apk
It is Vidon me XBMC 1.0 it works well with HW decoding with local and UPNP and samba shered files. But do not display subtitles: (
So Vidon me XBMC 1.0 works with my Chinese box.
When I start Vidon me 1.0 it alerts me there is 1003 version, but download link is broken.
It ' s great shame but A100 apk (for A20 chipset) do not work with my A10 based box.
If anybody has version 1003 please share it.
