BBC documentary - unable to playback in xbmc
#1
I am having some problems here and was wondering if someone can help me out.

I primarily use DVDfab to rip all of my blu-rays / dvds, but the program kept crashing when I try to rip BBC documentaries. So I switched over to MakeMKV and everything ripped just fine. I opened up the file in PowerDVD 12 and everything is playing back just fine.

However, when I go to play the file in XBMC, the video is very choppy and is skipping all over the place. All of my other 200 rips are working just fine and I am only seeing this issue w/ BBC documentaries. I wonder if they have a special protection set on the discs that doesn't allow playback on non-dvd players and the makeMKV isn't breaking the code.

any help is greatly appreciated!

Can you provide a Log_file (wiki) of you playing the file.

Initial thoughts are that it's either:

1. An audio settings issue, in that the type of audio contained is not compatible with your system, to test for this set

Audio output: Analog
Speaker configuration: 2.0
Audio output device: "whatever you are using"

2. The video codec/resolution is VC1 1080i which many BBC documentaries are prone to be, this can cause issues as the ffmpeg version in Frodo does not handle this well. If it's this then you need to de-interlace video or better still re-encode to H.264.
