Hey,
I'm currently using NextPvr. It installed ok and works well. Even got the channel logos and channel order how I want. So, I am pretty reluctant to mess around too much... but at the same time I really miss not having series record (one of the few good things about wmc was that the series record was so simple).
Bearing that in mind - what's a safe bet for another pvr backend?

You can do series recordings with NextPVR. You need to schedule them in NextPVR's own frontend, or in it's web interface though. This is true of all the other backends options, since the inability to schedule them directly in XBMC is a limitation of XBMC not the backend.
