"failure to intialize audio device" while playing ripped BluRay files

Not sure - the side should work, just rechecked. All other ppa i know of are also on launchpad and should have the same problem for you. Try running sudo apt-get update first
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

When I initially was installing XBMC, I wanted to get the latest and so I added the PPA but it failed on apt-get update. As a fall-back I was forced to install from Software Centre.
I have run 'sudo apt-get update' a dozen times or more since that time. Each time I received the 'forbidden access 403' error.

I can successfully ping ppa.launchpad.net

Without access to the repo, it's looking like I'll have to abort XBMC.

Are you censored by your internet provider? Can you pastebin the ppa line that you are using from the config file?

I can successfully ping/resolve ppa.launchpad.net, so my ISP is not suspect. I don't use any proxy's. I've even changed DNS server settings.

Further investigation indicates that ALL ppa.launchpad.net update attempts are producing the same errors in Precise. There appears to be a bug in apt.

Reference Launchpad bug: #1185159 Failing to fetch https sources with apt-get update
since this bug indicates https sources, I've opened a separate bug report (#1200955) on http sources.

My ppa config line: http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu

I think I might have a work-around for my apt-get issues. I have been able to get my hands on the debs for XBMC-Frodo for both Raring(13.04) and Saucy(12.10). I am running Precise on my Media Server.
Would I be able to use either of these debs on Precise successfully? Which should I use, and is it just a matter of installing via Software Center, or should I uninstall 11.0 first?

you will also need quite a few dependencies, basically everything in the ppa

I think I found the answer, on the Discussion tab.

Comment 5: 12 won't be on the Debian (and thus Ubuntu) repos automatically Sad
As topic says. We've been exiled to the unstable repo until some libav stuff is sorted out. -- Ned Scott 07:45, 29 January 2013 (EST)

no, this has nothing to do with launchpad and our PPAs.
It only means we are not in _standard debian_ repositories.
