When I click on the icon to launch the program it doesn't show up on my screen at all, but it does show up in my processes that are running. I can't seem to access he xbmc at all.

You should have some sort of XBMC log if it is getting far enough to run as a process. Can you post it? Instructions here.
Section 3 tells you where your logfile is. If it does not clearly tell you where the problem is, you should upload it and post a link in this thread. Section 2 tells you how to upload it.
