I have an Apple TV 1 running Eden and streaming video from a server running 2008 R2 without a problem over SMB.

My new Raspberry Pi running Frodo (tried openelec and raspbian) is buffering for 15 seconds every 3 seconds !

this happens on Wireless and Ethernet.

If I copy a video file to my wife's PC running Win 7 x64 and stream from that I don't have the buffering problem.

This must be something to do with XBMC 12 Frodo talking to servers ?

I have tried it over NFS to no avail.

Any ideas ?

Are you sure you set up file sharing correctly in server 2012 ?
Since it implements new SMBv3 by default, I believe you need to set it up slightly different if you want to use SMBv2 clients with it.
I have heard some people experiencing other speed issues as well, when not using 'Windows' clients.
