Linux overscan ok for menus, not when playing
#1
Question
Hi Guys,

I'm using xmbc on linux 12.04.2 LTS with amd fusion.

I'm trying to get the overscan right, but I get a very confusing result :

In the Video calibration option, and in general in the xbmc menus, the overscan is perfect.
But as soon as I start to play a video, I get black bars on all four sides of the screen, whatever the resolution of the video
( The black bars are not in the video... with letterboxed content, I get even more black bars )

Could something help me on this ?

Thanks in advance.

Best thing is to turn overscan off on your tv and leave xbmc at the default settings.
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)

Whilst playing a video bring up the osd then vid options~calibrate screen...calibrate the screen to suit, then use the back key when finished, then save for all videos ..you may have to it a few times for different video resolutions

fglrx underscans by default, so even if you have set your TV to disable overscan, you'll see black bars.

the solution is:
1. Disable overscan on TV
2.)
Code:
sudo service lightdm stop # we must stop X, change command if you don't use lightdm
sudo aticonfig --set-pcs-val=MCIL,DigitalHDTVDefaultUnderscan,0
sudo service lighdm start # or just reboot
