Does XBMC support TS file format?
#1
First timer here, pardon me if this is an old question, couldn't find any definite answer on Google or searching this forum.

In an old post ( link: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=160647 ), people seem to all suggust first convert TS to some common format. Looks like there is no support in XBMC to play TS file directly?

I checked the wiki page at: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Fea...ed_formats

There's also no mention of TS file is supported or not supported.

Anybody is sure about the status of TS file support in XBMC?

Many thanks,

Yes it can play TS files no problem.
I have used capture cards software that store in ts format and have had no problem playing them as long as your hardware and network support it.
I am pretty sure WMC stores files as .ts
I do convert .ts to avi to save space but XBMC will play .ts

Absolutely can. I do it everyday. =)
The XBMC team, plug-in devs, skinners, etc. do this for us for FREE in their spare time because they want to. Think about that for a second before you start bitching...

IIRC as of 7MC it is wtv format. Before that it was dvrms. Win 7 has included wtv to dvrms conversion.

I think anything ffmpeg can handle will work in XBMC. Gotham bumps the ffmpeg library to v1.2 so there might be a difference if you check a nightly.

.TS files or transport stream files are just the container, you could have multiple combined streams usually Mpeg2 and could give handling issues http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG_transport_stream, I've had no problems with Win Media .ts files but had a buddy brought over a .TS file grabbed OTA that resolved one program within a multiple pack.
