Linux Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto)
(2013-10-19, 08:02)beschmid Wrote: @fritsch: When I enable Live TV my system freezes. Is there a log or any info I can provide you to troubleshoot this?

xbmc.log with debugging turned on. Btw. LiveTV is my primary scenario and it obviously works for me. Check the relevant output concerning glinterop and vdpauinfo.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
I updated the howto to now use 3.12-rc5 and some patches made by Alex Deucher, which fix the audio clock and enable audio without the xrandr hack, when adding radeon.audio=1 to the command line.

I kept the patch someone said would be needed for radeon si.

"unable to locate libg3vdl-mesa"

Having followed the instruction I got the above error message

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:wsnipex/mesa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install libg3dvl-mesa vdpauinfo linux-firmware

Thank you.

i would have to refer to @fritsch, or some of the other more senior members on this post.
hard to believe that there are just three of us out there with this hardware.
Linux Mint 18 LTS 64-bit - Kodi 17 Beta6
Odroid-C2 - Libreelec v7.90.009
The first row is typing error, otherwise I do copy and paste everything based on the instruction.

you seem to be missing the linux image, linux-image-3.12.0-rc5_2.2_amd64.deb
Intel Core i5-11500, ASRock B560M-ITX/ac, 240GB SSD + 4TB  Western Digital Blue, Arch Linux, mythtv 31+fixes + TBS 6205 QUAD FREEVIEW DVB-T2
@fritsch that new kernel put everything in slow mo. Xubuntu desktop and pulse. I know not supported. Just FYI. I will dig deeper. Even YouTube music vids are in slow no. 7to10 fps.
Thank you. It was my fault.
@gfisher:
I cannot reproduce - as I am running it since three days without issues before I posted the kernel.

If you boot the older kernel, all is fine again? It seems you miss some acceleration. Logfiles welcome.

using the 3.12.0-rc5 kernel, working fine on my E350.

Okay. For all with kernel problems, please file bugs on freedesktop. The AMD oss devs are keen to fix such issues, they are really helpful.

I've seen couple of people with gentoo in this thread. Can someone share their ebuilds/overlays?
Fritsch thx. I removed pulse and it works on the new kernel. But no sound. Xubuntu is sketchy without pavucontrol. I probably will have to reinstall to clean. The bigger issue is h.264 59.94p still skips too much, I notice it on playback OSD W moves 55-60. Both kernels. I suspect it is a model line or that 1080p is only getting 50fps on my test. Xvba and gt610 were good in this regard.
Edit - once I get sound working will post logs
add radeon.audio=1 or use the xrandr to enable it.

You cannot decode more than qvdpautest is able to decode, e.g. 59.94 won't work.
