Linux Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto)
(2013-10-22, 08:13)fritsch Wrote: @DustinD:
You missed an important step.

Quote:[ 5.769795] radeon 0000:00:01.0: radeon_uvd: Can't load firmware "radeon/SUMO_uvd.bin"

which is:

Code:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:wsnipex/mesa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install libg3dvl-mesa vdpauinfo linux-firmware

Erm and you missed also the other rest to install the corect PPA and so on.
Quote:Starting XBMC (12.0-RC3 Git:7a6cb7f)
I think you better start again from the start, as you want to learn something :-)

And you have a full blown ubuntu running
Quote:m_displayName : Playback/recording through the PulseAudio sound server

Your first attemp to follow a howto has misserably failed - retry.

I knew I was loading the full Ubuntu, but it was because I was having so many problems with the mini version completing install. Sad Are there processes in the full version that interfere that aren't loaded in the mini, or what's the advantage?

I'll start the install over but I'm 100% sure I ran both those line you quoted, because I remember looking to make sure I didn't get the "wayland" error. Maybe it has to do with me using the full ubuntu vs the mini.

Regardless, thank you for the advice I'll give it another shot. It's amazing to me how long this process takes versus the other installs I attempted though. Hopefully it's all worth it!
@fritsch
sudo ./radeontool 0x05b4 148500

sudo ./radeontool regmatch 0x05b4 148500

@Endeavour79 -- if you want to change your splash screen... follow this thread.
works flawless for me.

sudo ./radeontool regset 0x05b4 148500

But I have just just gotten a patch from alex deucher, that should cure your problem. You can also join irc later for a test.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

@fritsch you tell people to wget both files but two are the same and *deb only get the first one. Why not fix this and save bandwidth ?
Lol - the second one is obviously -headers- ... haha, will fix.

New Kernel is now online, this includes a new Patch by Alex, which should now really fix the issues with the Audio Speed being too fast.

Code:
cd ~/kernel
wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/55728161/linux-image-3.12.0-rc6_0.3_amd64.deb https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/55728161/linux-headers-3.12.0-rc6_0.3_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i *deb
sudo reboot

If it asks you to overwrite and continue, just continue.

Feedback especialy from A4 and A6 users is welcome, concerning _this_ topic.

I see some other things spamming your logfile - that could block the main thread - can you disable that Slideshow spamming thingy?

Btw. also disable debug log and try to hear disconts.

The warnings will still appear and you can check how many you get.

Error is still all over the logfile till XBMC crashes..

Hello,

I attempted to follow these steps using a mini install and this script as a base. After completing the listed procedure, upon reboot the OS splash appears and a single progress dot highlights followed by a black screen and loss of signal reported by my receiver. The OS however seems to be running because the ZFS array on this machine is still accessible from the network.

Luckily the server as a whole is in such a state that a full OS reinstall is an easy task if need be. However, if there's any troubleshooting that can be done to resolve this issue without such a measure I would appreciate the help.
