Linux Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto)
Hi fritsch,

I have a config with these specs:
MB: Gigabyte F2A85XM-D3H
APU: AMD A10-5800K, Radeon HD 7660D
Receiver: Sony STR-DG820

Everything seems to work fine, except TrueHD and DTS-HD. If I check the capable options and play a dts-hd or truehd sample, the receiver does not get any stream (neither PCM, nor anyting other).
If I uncheck the capable options, then dts-hd plays as simple dts, and truehd plays as PCM 2.0 (speaker configuration is 5.1 under XBMC Audio output settings).
The receiver is capable to decode these audio streams, as it work's without problems on my other config with an nvidia gpu (XBMCbuntu 12.3).

I have tried all the options you mentioned in the first post and searched for others comments in this thread as well. Nothing helped.
- with and without marantz edid
- adjust display refresh rate disabled/always
- A/V sync method Video clock/Audio clock
- alsamixer unmute

A weird thing is that under Settings/Audio output the Audio output device is "HDA ATI, @@@". This should be "Sony AVAMP" or something else naming my receiver.
I get the exact same results with your marantz edid.

Any other suggestion?

Thanks,

hi Fritsch,

i successfully compiled and ran xbmc with vdpau enabled and hdmiaudio working ! Wink
now i have another issue however, when i add media and i scan new directoires to add information, the scan takes one second but nothing seems tout happen. no item is added to the library.
what can i do to analyse and see what happens ?

thx again for your help
The tutorial still mentions: "Anssis HDA patch" - is it still needed for kernel >3.13.rc6? The formulation is unclear to me...

You need to do a library update and not scan for new content. They moved this setting to the slide out menu on the left.

I'm trying to add Live tv functionality to my xbmc installation, and encounter what xbmc crashed and restarted when trying to display TV stream.
This happen only if VDPAU enabled, if i disable VDPAU live TV shown.
Little update: HD channels works. Only SD channels is affected.
Looks like mpeg-2 broken?
@doctor64: yes. There was a bug in mesa / kernel for mpeg-2 which I thought was solved. Perhaps someone of those that had problems before with mpeg-2 can speak up.

@tomtomme: No patch is needed anymore, I will update the howto.

You could look (and/or post it here) into your xbmc logfile "~/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log" to see if there is anything printed regarding a failed scan and possibly why.

I enabled logs at debug level.
I found several warning lines after i try to add content in the media library !

I see the file names being parsed and that tvshownaming rules found the correct values.
However just after that step i can see these warning :

Code:
07:56:38 T:140475548653312 WARNING: CreateLoader - Unsupported protocol(library) in library://video/tvshows/years.xml/poster.jpg
07:56:38 T:140475548653312 WARNING: CreateLoader - Unsupported protocol(library) in library://video/tvshows/years.xml/poster.png

07:56:38 T:140475548653312 WARNING: CreateLoader - Unsupported protocol(library) in library://video/tvshows/years.xml/thumb.png
....

I tried to google that error message but didn't find anything relevent for now.
Thanks for your help

I keep meaning to check this with 3.13-rc7 and Mesa git - will do it later this evening. It was still broken last I tested (fully updated just before Christmas)...

As far as I know no relevant fixes have been commited though :/
my problems with mpeg2 have gone away.
Intel Core i5-11500, ASRock B560M-ITX/ac, 240GB SSD + 4TB  Western Digital Blue, Arch Linux, mythtv 31+fixes + TBS 6205 QUAD FREEVIEW DVB-T2
All with that problem install libg3dvl-mesa-dbg package (could be named differently) and get it crash with gdb again and add that backtrace to the original bugreport on freedesktop.

@spiroid -- you need to post full debug logs on either pastebin.com or xbmclogs.com

that little snippet is not enough to tell us anything.
