Linux Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto)
Your TV runs the wrong resolution. You are on 720p - is that really what you want?
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

No, but I left everything default. Would that affect the audio?
Yes - some AVRs don't have an audio profile for "some" resolution, though for 720p it's unlikely to miss. I see a whole lot of drops in your log. Could you do a qvdpautest? Read a bit back on howto do it or join #xbmc-xvba and I will tell you.

@fritsch
so I would just follow OP download/make/install:
ftp://ftp.freedesktop.org/pub/mesa/10.0.2/
then
http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-announc...02384.html
Then will it be "like" OE then?
Or will the deinterlace patch still be missing.
Yes "most likely" You can also replace glamor and the ati driver :-)

@fritsch. I think you are on to something. All OEs that I have that play well are on xserver-xorg 1.15. I tried other mesas/kernels- no change. I am having fun compiling xorg 1.15 on minimal. It is missing so many pkgs.
wsnipex is currently updating ati / glamor / libdrm let's see what happens.

hi guys,

I was folowing this thread for a long time and am very interested in this project.
I have successfully used vaapi on my integrated intel HD gpu but with installation of a radeon HD7850 I failed completely.
running proprietary fglrx drivers I could get xvba working but sound was crappy and cpu load quite high.

all efforts to get vdpau on radeon drivers working failed on my ubuntu 13.10 installation, now I messed it up completely and have to reinstall from scratch.
as I need hardware acceleration for semi-extensive software like chimera or pymol I'd like to know if OSS radeon already supports my gpu or I have to stay with fglrx and forget at the moment about vdpau.

thanks for response,
schnappi
Please present the logfiles the howto wants.

moin fritsch,
unfortunately after booting my ubuntu I immediately enter root console with only possible action ctrl+d to reboot Sad
I will definitely havte to reinstall ubuntu 13.10 but question is if it is worth to fiddle around with radeon at the moment or immediately use fglrx regarding 3D acceleration...
I don't know - I don't own your hardware. Follow the howto, needs you 10 minutes and then let's see.

@fritsch. That's good. Thank you. I finally got 1.15 to build/make/install with all of the young dev. dependencies. Now it is complaining about the things you mention being too old. Sad I bet wsnipex will get it before me..
Cant get VDPAU working on this system. Saw the same problem here : http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1520462
But couldnt find a solution. Have it running on 2 other exactly the same machines.

dmesg | pastebinit
http://paste.ubuntu.com/6820912/

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | pastebinit
http://paste.ubuntu.com/6820929/

DISPLAY=:0 vdpauinfo | pastebinit
Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Error creating VDPAU device: 1
http://paste.ubuntu.com/6820934/

dpkg -l |grep mesa | pastebinit
http://paste.ubuntu.com/6820940/
This does not look like a new installation. The other 2 machines are running fine?

Yes i know this isnt a clean install. This is machine of a friend of mine. I thought i would just switch it over. But that doesnt seem to work so effortless as i thought. And i know im supposed to do a clean install. But if i could get this to work it would be so much quicker.
Theres only 1 partition so i would have to backup all his data and setup the complete system again. (couch, sickbeard, sab etc etc).

And yes other 2 systems are running fine. Those where both installed with clean install as suggested.

So i guess u cant give me a quick answer in how to fix this ? Sad
