Ian

I'm using tvheademd 3.9.373~g55c2bbb. I'll try a downgrade.
thanks

Yesterday, got a fresh version from tvheadend git and compiled (3.9.373~gt55c2bbb). After some testing, I have to say that this version is not for daily using. It is even worse than 3.4.27.

I think that fritsch is right and tvheadend is buggy now. I'll try vdr or go back to mythtv.
MPEG-2 update: Well, after updating yesterday (3.13 final and wsnipex test) things got interesting! I now have SD (MPEG-2) recordings that either:
  • Play fine.
  • Play with sound, trigger a GPU reset, catchup the video and then continue normally.
  • Start playing but with a green checkerboard that randomly appears!

And it appears to be reproducable now - as in the same clips produce the same effects.

Oooh and pipelight hardware decoding seems busted - unless someone knows better Smile

I'll get the bugtracker updated, soon, I promise - work's been too busy Sad

My MythTV experience has been great with 0.27 FWIW - live tv is much improved over 0.26!

The only issue is one backend has a BGT3600 (BG seem to be a bit slow updating the Linux drivers) and I seem to be loosing the end of some recordings - as in the recording just stops!
Beware: Latest mesa testing packages have failed to build.

I've had that problem in 0.27, happens infrequently to the same channel and the same time (The Simpsons on Channel4 HD)
mythbackend log shows no errors, yesterday it stopped after 13 minutes.

i just updated to the latest packages using:
apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

now, whenever I play any streaming video (does not matter the source), my video is very jumpy. playing things i have on my computer play just fine.

here's a debug log with something playing from file, and something playing from source:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/6838277/

here are my other logs:
dmesg - http://paste.ubuntu.com/6838281/
Xorg -- http://paste.ubuntu.com/6838288/
vdpauinfo -- http://paste.ubuntu.com/6838293/
mesa --- http://paste.ubuntu.com/6838295/

i've set my settings to 'Allow frame-multi-threaded decoding', since that seems to clear up the issue for now

let me know if you need any further information.

That disables every hw acceleration. So no vdpau will be in use.

@fritsch

I've downloaded your clannad.mkv and it has the same jumpy playback as all the other videos i've tested. Any advice you can offer is much appreciated.

Brilliant Smile

Do you think a move to OpenELEC might be worth trying?

Roll back the packages from the cache - see if it still happens...
which ppa do you use for mesa? only the test ppa has been updated.
i'm using the test ppa

sorry... should have mentioned that.

After various failed tries with Windows/XBMCbuntu/openSuSE I managed to get XBMC running on my little fanless Shuttle xs35gs-v3l. And it runs so smothly... :-)

One last issue I'vo got with the sound which is mono only:

root@xbmc:~# amixer
Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0
Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Mono
Mono: Playback [on]

Does anybody know how to switch to 5.1 ?
THX!

(2014-01-27, 23:39)fritsch Wrote: That's not mono ... check xbmc audio settings.

You are right. It's not mono. In fact it is 2-channel audio (left and right). If I play a 5.1 movie I don't hear any sounds which are supposed to be played on e.g. center channel. That's quite bad because it's mostly voices :-)

I have to mention that the computer has 2 audio cards (Intel and ATI), the Intel card is completely switched off.
In the settings screen (system > audio) I don't see all the configuation items I see in guisettings.xml. Don't know if this is an issue? Here's the audiooutput section of my guisettings.xml:

<audiooutput>
<ac3passthrough>true</ac3passthrough>
<ac3transcode>true</ac3transcode>
<audiodevice>ALSA:hdmi:CARD=HDMI,DEV=0</audiodevice>
<channels>8</channels>
<config>2</config>
<dtshdpassthrough>false</dtshdpassthrough>
<dtspassthrough>false</dtspassthrough>
<eac3passthrough>false</eac3passthrough>
<guisoundmode>0</guisoundmode>
<normalizelevels>true</normalizelevels>
<passthrough>false</passthrough>
<passthroughdevice>ALSA:hdmi:CARD=HDMI,DEV=0</passthroughdevice>
<processquality>30</processquality>
<samplerate>48000</samplerate>
<stereoupmix>false</stereoupmix>
<streamsilence>1</streamsilence>
<truehdpassthrough>false</truehdpassthrough>
</audiooutput>

What's wrong with my config?
