No. That I did not say. We provide what the hw drivers / api provides. But yeah mpeg-4 / xvid was a time when a whole lot of different files / codecs / encodings / shitty encoders were around - so don't hold your breath too long. Xbmc does not do the decoding, it only uses well established interfaces (vdpau, vaapi, vda, dxva, etc.) most via ffmpeg hw context.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Look harder :-) there is only exactly one .cfg file in /flash.
Nothing for now, they are still discussing changes to the code.

That patch was commited and 3.14 is used this could very well be the issue. Sadly your TV / computer combination is for now the only bad report. All others are now happy with working 24p :-) -> Head over to the bugreport and post your findings.

I don't need to think anything, if you can just go out and try it. "The Problem" - if you are refering to the stop bug is not yet solved as the Ubuntu guys will first pick it, when it's landed in a stable mesa series - use the OpenELEC image, that has everything that is possible today (without hevc).

its trivial to install kernel 3.14 in ubuntu. Just get it from the ubuntu kernel ppa.
