6) turn off tv and reboot with avr on and tv off. If that works, try with both off. If this works, congratulations.
If not, try to remove the video=HDMI-A-1:e part in /etc/defaults/grub (this is what forces the video output). run sudo update-grub and try again.
Works like a charm on my system, but both instances quoted above should read /etc/default/grub without the "S"

One question for those that are running the fernetmenta ppa.
Did something change for you concerning sync in the last 4 days? Something worse, better, no difference?
Can someone please post a Debug Log when playing a 24p movie and when doing something else, e.g. playing the same 24p movie at 60 hz without Adjust to Refreshrate?

I fixed the default(s) type. Sorry about that.
Also I managed to get my Zbox to work with forced HDMI output and i can now turn on everything in the order i want! Huzzah.
The issue? When booting in legacy bios mode, the Zbox had serious issues about which order to turn things on in, and if my AVR was off it never booted right.
Switching to UEFI, the HDMI still does not come on by itself but it boots, and NOW i can force the hdmi to be on, and it works.
So yeah, silly hardware be silly I guess...

i've removed LCDproc, disconnected the iMON display, disconnected the USB-CEC converter and started fresh.
Good news I couldn't recreate the crash. FFMPEG spamming continues however.
restored my .kodi dir to retest with removed LCDproc, disconnected the iMON display, disconnected USB-CEC converter. Still not able to recreate the crash for several days. Also still FFMPEG issues but I can turn that off via the debug preferences.
As the WAF has now gone down drastically I will gradually add them back to see when the crashing returns.
any other ideas are welcome!

i guess that's a no.
?uestion.... is fernetmenta's ppa behind the unstable ppa?
i got a message the other day that there was an updated version of Kodi, then noticed that there was (is) a beta 2.
so i've since switched to the unstable ppa -- ppa:team-xbmc/unstable

No it's not. But you can now switch to the official betas as fernetmenta is PRing everything he has into mainline :-)

I have never tested 14.10 myself and I don't plan doing so. The following commands get you kodi installed:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:team-xbmc/unstable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi kodi-bin

sudo apt-get install kodi kodi-bin

Hi,
after I installed Kodi with this tutorial, I am getting a lot messages like this in dmesg
"[Sat Nov 15 17:54:23 2014] HDMI ATI/AMD: no speaker allocation for ELD"
Always ~30x at a time
I listen to sound with an external USB soundcard, so I could turn off it off with radeon.audio=0 in kernel parameters, but this doesn't cure the cause.
Does somebody know why I am getting this weird messages?

Your TV sends broken EDID information. Just ignore those messages or use drm_kms_helper to overwrite the EDID info as shown in this thread.

With this guide and the recent beta3 push I've lost access to the power functions. I didn't rename my user so it is still xbmc but it worked the same way in beta2 so maybe a bug?

I also have the polkit settings from post #1 and they haven't changed. It worked in beta2 and not in beta3.
