For those with power issues, this may have been covered before but I'll refresh it here, a decent 5v psu isn't enough if you overclock. the pi will pull more amps when overclocked. I have found that a 2 amp 5v PSU is good enough to run the pi in super OC or even at 1Ghz. anything below this you'll probably get resets and dirty shutdowns.

Also if overclocking be sure to add heatsinks to your pi. Either way raspbmc including this gotham branch run really sweet on the 3 pi's in my house, with super OC setting and 2amp psu's.

Regarding power issues, it´s very good that you have found a good solution, and what you recommend is of course good, but have in mind that it doesn´t matter what the PSU states as it might fail anyway, specially having in mind that most of them are chargers.
It is very individual.

Personally I have 5 PSU´s that I have played around with.
Two of them are 1A 5V that are perfectly usable with a Pi on even higher OC than super (they will fail before the Pi does though).
Another is a 2A 5V which is unusable on same setup with much lower OC, but the best one I have is a 2A though.
The last one is a pretty much unusable 1A 5V, dropping to 4,5V already on stock OC.

That said, a 2A PSU "should" be better, but you never know.

I say, if you have reboots/freezes/crashes or any other sorts of behaviour that could be a power related issue, check the voltage.
Do not rely on anything printed on the PSU.

And if you ask me, heat sinks might be completely unnecessary, at least with my Pi´s.
No matter what I do I don´t reach 85° which is the "stock" limit before it shúts down.
One Pi I run at 1050/500/600 (+ overvolted & overvolted SDRAM), when I stress it I can reach ≈ 77°.
The other one I run at 1000/500/500, also overvolted the same way, max temp I can reach is ≈73°.

When I say "stress it" I mean things that will not happen unless I make it, such as "forcing" CPU to 100% for a long period.

Both of them are staying between ≈ 58-64° when idle.

It might be very individual though (Pi, where you live, where you have your Pi etc.), but as you see heat sinks is completely unnecessary for both my setups.

I've been running heavily overclocked rPI myself for atleast 5 months now (arm_freq=1100 core_freq=450 isp_freq=450 sdram_freq=500 force_turbo=1 over_voltage=8) and never had any crashes or any other issues. I do use active cooling for my rPI tho (heatsinks + fan) so temperature never really goes above 40C even under 100% load for prolonged time.
Back when I was trying various overclocks I found out that 'cheap' 5V 2A power supply would make my rPI crash occasionally with 1ghz+ clocks so I decided to upgrade onto proper power supply that powers everything that is connected to rPI now. It is 5V 8A power supply and its powering USB HUB (+ external hdd) + rPI + 90x LED WS2801 ledstrip. The total draw is somewhere around 5A with everything on at max. Haven't had single crash since then.

Can really recommend it. It is really cheap and the plug fits most of the powered USB hubs that there are.

I can confirm GUI sounds work properly again in this build.

I have found another problem that causes massive playback stutter on a particular video (only after a large seek) that plays fine on Frodo (and seems to be there for at least the last few builds when I check back) but that's the subject of another post for tomorrow as I have to pull together debug logs and do a bit more narrowing down of what triggers it.

Some great insight there Miappa, true enough not all PSU's are created equal maybe I got lucky with my units. Also do you run your pi's in a case ? I do but they are not vented so temps on mine have hit 71 max which was a one off I think. Idle or general use it's low 60's.

Things have been fixed/changed/updated since then though, but yes it is included since a long while back.

Just a side note on Heatsinks. They are a bit like seatbelts in this situation, not really useful for everyday function but if something happens (for example, a race condition while you are away and unaware of it) then they may just save you from some very toasty PCB issues. I've seen a fried RPi, it isn't pretty.

As for power/chargers, the NOKIA AC-10X (02715V5) has always proved very stable (with some rather insane overclocks we've run here, just for the 'giggles')

Question about playing music.
I'm using audio crossover (15 sec) with these builds, but every time when a new song starts (15 seconds before the end of the playing song) there is a hickup: A short gap. This can also be heard at the start and when stopping a song.
My pi is not overclocked. Default player is paplayer. How can i prevent that from happening? Anyone?

You are speaking of hddvd sample, correct? As Matrix sample played OK, but only with some artefacts in some parts.
