After upgrading OS X to version 10.9 Mavericks DP 1, I'm experiencing problems with starting XBMC.

When starting XBMC it bounces one time in the dock before disappearing.
I have not tried deleting config/userdata files yet, as I would prefer fixing it without being forced to set up everything again.

Does anybody have experiences running XBMC on OS X 10.9 ?

Looks like it could be another problem with audio.

Just fyi - we don't care about mavericks until its released. That was like that for all other plaforms and will stay that way in the future aswell.

With all respect Memphiz, shouldn't XBMC be ready for Maverick (in the development branch) before it's released and not start patching it when thousands of users update when the final build is out?

Do you seriously think they're going to do that? No dev is scrambling on Mavericks crashes right now because the dev preview is so painfully unfinished that you can't tell if it's the OS's fault or the application's fault. The only thing of interest right now are new APIs and the like.

Even when it's time to really start working on it, some (one?) of our OS X devs are registered OS X devs, so they're under an NDA like everyone else who's using a dev preview. If they weren't, it still wouldn't matter because by the time 10.9 is released, XBMC v13 still won't be done, so there will be time to fix any major issues.

We're not even close to the part where user reported bugs are helpful. Right now that stuff is just noise.

I am not an registered OSX dev. And you can't assume that anybody of the team is. So at least i am not even able to fetch the preview. And no - it is the thing of the user to jump on new trains. I don't play that game - we never did. Sue me.

Want to thank the developers for being so clear Smile

I'm happy to add my experiences of running XBMC on developer previews of OS X primarily as a warning to those - and you know who you are Wink - who aren't willing to wait for the final release of OS X before installing it on a regularly used machine and expecting it to work. XBMC doesn't work, and don't expect it to before Mavericks is finally released.

And to reiterate what the developers have said, at this stage it's nothing to do with the XBMC developers as to whether it runs or not. I have to be a little careful with what I say as I'm under an NDA with Apple, but I think its fair to say that every update of OS X brings changes to key systems and API's which break compatibility with existing apps. And those systems and API's are going to continue to change throughout any developer preview Apple chooses to do. It's not until those are finalised - which will happen at the GM stage (or later, if more than one GM is needed) that the developers of XBMC should even start to concern themselves with compatibility with the new version.

At this stage, the people to bug about XBMC not working are Apple themselves - and then, only if you're a registered developer. Go tell them they've broken compatibility with the app. I have! Hope for them to fix it before final release and, if they don't, don't even consider asking for the XBMC developers to consider fixing it until GM.

And, if you're not a registered developer then simply don't use the DP and don't worry about compatibility at all - there's nothing you can do at this stage, and nothing the XBMC developers will do (or that it would even be sensible for them to do) about it at this stage.

Thx - nice sum up. For the boys in the back which can compile on their own - here is a proposed fix for 10.9 DP:

Hi and thanks for the solution, anyone have the builded .app ? I m testing Maverick on my Air and I haven't Xcode on this device I have to wait until the weekend to compile it on my iMac :'(
#10
Just compiled that fix, it works on OSX 10.9 DP1 (and also still works on 10.8 ;-) ). Needs to be compiled on a 10.8 machine, since the build system isn't yet modified for the new XCode versions.
The fix will probably appear soon in the nightly builds.
Tx for the quick solution!
#11
Is it possible to link to a compiled version of this app also? I don't have a 10.8 machine handy to build this with.
#12
Then what are you guys doing with a DEVELOPER preview?
#13
latest nightly has it ...

I'd love to be able to compile a 12.2 build with this patch (without having to resort to a nightly, which will change DB version and require me to update all my clients) but I can't get the latest Xcode to play nice.
