Stuttering Video

For those experiencing this issue this is the bug in XBMC causing this:

http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/14622

Those experiencing the problem might like to monitor this as video won't be smooth until it is fixed.

It looks like there is now a simple fix for this which has been made in the code. Is anyone able to compile versions of FFMPEG for Frodo and Gotham that could be put on existing installs please?

That is great news. Thanks to Spaceboy for starting the process.

Why not just wait for this to get into a nightly for gotham?

Obvously thanks to FernetMenta too (if you ever come here).

Mainly as I'm running OpenElec on an Intel NUC and Raspberry Pi primarily. I'm not keen to put nightly builds on those and would rather just replace FFMPEG if I can find a way.

asm495, how are you finding the intel nuc? which chip did you go for? i was looking at these the other day on quietpc. they look interesting obviously a lot more money than the pi but if it has the additional power i may try one out

I have the Celeron NUC with 4GB RAM and a 32GB SSD. The performance on the NUC is very good I think. I haven't found anything it struggled with but I'm not particularly demanding with the content. The UI certainly flows around with no issues.

I got the Pi to experiment with when they first came out (256MB Model B) and I tried some of the early versions of XBMC on it but gave up as the performance was so atrocious even with the standard skin. I was blown away when I tried again about a month ago as to how much they have improved the experience. It is still pretty sluggish but it is usable although some videos particularly HD seem to have issues playing for some reason. What I do love is the build in HDMI-CEC which means no additional remote is required.

I am keeping my eye out for the Haswell Celeron NUC due next year which apparently has integrated IR and can take 2.5" SSDs rather than just mSATA.

Certainly my experience with the NUC is that it does everything that I require of it.

I just downloaded the last (6-dec-2013) build of XBMC for Windows just to test the H264 stutter and I can confirm that it finally works like it should!
So the fix has been included in the master build nightly, which is great Smile

EDIT:

One thing though, with the XBMCSetup-20131205-8f830c1-master.exe, which fixes the stutter there is NO EPG!

When XBMC starts I can see the add-on fetching channels, but then when it starts fetching EPG, it stops immediately.

There should be enough EPG:

Yet XBMC is empty:

Hi Ian,

Thanks for letting us know the fix to the stuttering video is up. As for the EPG, maybe this thread is relevant:

Yes as per that thread I found that EPG bug and a fix was submitted but they are still working through the finer details. It's the penalty of being on the bleeding edge I guess.

Hmm got really excited (must get out more) when I saw no stutter post but using the same nightly I can't get the front end addon to work. If I go through the official xbmc repository it will not allow me to enable it, and if I go through theimmortals repo it says dependencies not met Huh

Immortal's repos have problems currently. Try just installing by hand on your client machine. You can also test to see if the stuttering is gone by running a windows client on the server machine.
