yeah that sure was bad english.
i'm not sure i even understand your question.
i *think* mplayer uses the first compatible codec it can find, in this case ffodivx:

Quote:videocodec ffodivx
info "ffmpeg mpeg-4"
status working
fourcc fmp4,fmp4
fourcc divx,divx,divx
fourcc div1,div1 divx
fourcc mp4s,mp4s; iso mpeg-4 video v1
fourcc m4s2,m4s2
fourcc xvid,xvid,xvid,xvix
fourcc dx50,dx50,blz0 dx50
fourcc mp4v,mp4v
format 0x4
fourcc ump4
fourcc 3iv2,3iv2 ; 3ivx delta 4
fourcc dxgm
fourcc sedg; diskless camcorder samsung miniket vp-m110
fourcc smp4,smp4; samsung smp4 video codec
format 0x10000004 ; mpeg 4 es
driver ffmpeg
dll mpeg4;opendivx
out yv12,i420,iyuv

which is part of ffmpeg. second on the list is:

Quote:videocodec xvid
info "xvid (mpeg-4)"
status working
fourcc divx,divx
fourcc xvid,xvid,xvid
format 0x4
driver xvid
out yv12
out i420
out yuy2
out uyvy
out yvyu
out bgr32,bgr24,bgr16,bgr15
dll "libxvidcore.a"

try and rearrange the order here in xbmc/system/players/mplayer/codecs.conf. that *may* cause xvid to be used.

not possible with the currect cvs, elupus removed/disabled the native xvid codec to save memory, and as the native xvid codec had bugs which made it unsuitable as the default xvid decoder

@mariano, like pike i have no idea if this is really what you asked about, please try a more detailed explaination (maybe by using more words will help get more of your message across)

he's aware of the removal/disable of the xvid codec and asking when it will become available suggesting videolan as a possible source for information.

if the internal xvid codec is disabled, could it make use of an external and if so how?

it plays xvids "just fine", but it is using ffmpeg decoder to do so, at this decoder is becomming "obsolete".

videolan (vlc) is dooing a much better "job" at decoding xvid's than mplayer with ffmpeg on my pc so i suspect that the original post was a request to:
1: use the "original" xvid decoder
or
2: switch from the "mplayer base" to a "vlc base"
or
4: upgrade ffmpeg to support all xvid standards

he might be asking your 1 and 4 points but i don't think he is asking/requesting for a vlc port for xbmc (which is a completly separate matter; discuss here instead if needed!Wink.

as for using the 'original' xvid decoder in mplayer Confusedhifty: there is already an open thread for this open here (link) so please move that disucssion there instead, thanks in advance.

i think i remember why we removed the builtin xvid codec.
we couldnt detect any visual difference, so we decided to remove xvid codec to save mem. ffmpeg handles alot more than xvid already

our ffmpeg isnt that old either if memory serves.
sure we're still on mplayerpre6 but im quite sure ffmpeg was updated to pre7 or even newer a while ago.

if there has been additional xvid improvements since pre7, where can i read about this ?

ffmpeg's xvid decoder is definatly not going obsolete.. if somebody can provide me with a sample file that doesn't play using ffmpeg's decoder that does with standard xvid i'll might reenable it. otherwise it's just a waste of memory.
