tbh idk the log is unspecific you have no crash indicators If its crashing we need a crashlog, redacted ok but dont remove information that may be helpful ok to remove passwords/ips or replace them with xxxxx

In any case you complain of something and there are no logs or respective entries to support it.

My Advice is ditch Arch and follow the How-to pointed..

Support what? Excuse me, but are you implicating that there is no crash and I need proof for the crash?!

Im not implicating anything,

But yes typically when xbmc crashes on playback there are crashlogs.

Or what is the problem exactly? you said http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1594151

So therefore log should show that, I cant see it but maybe someone else can, which would be difficult since you dont provide the full debug logs.

This one. For some reason there were logs from things I did before i started the logging, so i removed them. Started with the buttonpress to start the movie, the first action after i activated logging in the system-setup.

if there is more needed please tell (the entire log is 600 pages in word. o.O).

We need the full debug logs minus the passwords and user names whatever is private (thats ok to edit out) ,debug logs from reproducing the issue exactly, not whatever you think may help, clearly there's a problem in communication here

My suggestion is start xbmc debugging and restart xbmc it should now be still debugging and fresh.... then reproduce issue, then open the log remove private info, then pastebin the FULL log.

Clearly I wont be able to help you! -- Good luck with getting this sorted.

Another log, this time I didn't edit anything, and turned on every "advanced logging" thingy in the logging.

(Turned on logging, restarted xbmc, reproduced error, turned off logging)

Let me try this agin, last time.

See http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=174854

Your advancedsettings.xml rename it, Im not familiar with Arch or ATI video cards but looking at the how to I linked thers no such settings. in that how-to therefore get rid of them temporarily.

You ALSO have TONS of alsa errors in log, this to me says your problems are AUDIO related and YES they affect the video playback, likely how your OS has alsa configuration, I already suggested to remove any alsa configuration files..

My advice is get you "friend" to fix it for you, or ditch arch and follow that how to if you dont know enough about Linux to get this sorted.

Im not going to give step by step instructions on something thats is covered very well in http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=174854

Sound is only put through by the HDMI only (via the ATI card), onboard-soundcard is deactivated in bios, advancedsettings.xml is deleted, there is no .asoundrc and no asound.conf.
The behaviour is, as in the beginning: " The movies run for a couple of seconds and thereafter I'm being thrown back to the main menu" (Post 4).

The onboard card being disabled could explain some alsa errors in XBMC log, could you please enable and see if the errors go away?

We are trying to determine if the possible AUDIO issues are not the cause.

Also try non 3D files.

Help @fritsch

You're the audio expert...

I'd advice you to follow the VDPAU on AMD guide from the beginning, save yourself the trouble of dealing with Archlinux.

We recently (after post #21) turned off the onboard card to check if it solves anything, the alsa errors stayed the same.
The movie I tried to watch was "Looper", a 2d-movie.

negge, we tried the vdpau on amd guide for ubuntu (about 1-2 months ago, when we set up the htpc) and had massive(!) problems with surround sound (including passthrough problems) , which worked out of the box with arch.

We tried a different movie ("2guns", 2d, 1080p) which worked flawlessly, including the same errors.
this is the log with both movies.

We got this far:

Only movies with THIS error put me back into the main menue:
ERROR: ffmpeg[A8FFFB40]: [matroska,webm] Read error at pos. 8471564 (0x81440c) 12:15:43 T:2816527168

Via VLC or MPC-HC the movies produce an error in the picture, but the movie keeps on being shown and "picks up" again.

Finally found the reason:

Files even with the slightest errors are unplayable.
