Small mini-itx case build for 3.5" HDD
#1
Hi there,

I'd like to build my first HTPC so I need some help to be sure of what I'm trying to do ! ^^
I need an HTPC which must at least contain my 3.5" HDD.

Here is the configuration I'd like to build :

€ 76,77 - Inter-Tech Mini ITX E-i7 84W
€ 63,96 - Carte mère ASRock B75M-ITX
€ 34,47 - Processeur Intel Celeron G1610 (2.6 GHz)
€ 33,46 - Mémoire DDR3 Crucial, 4 Go, PC3-12800, CAS 11
€ 9,34 - be quiet! Shadow Wings SW1
€ 24,42 - RII i25

So € 242,42 total (without shipping).

Do I Forget something ?
Isn't there a cheaper case ? (while not smaller or bigger)

If you don't mount an optical drive in that E-i7 case, it'll fit a 3,5" HDD and 2,5" HDD side-by-side. You'll need to remove the optical drive tray (3 screws). You'll need a low-profile cooler. A 3.5" HDD is 25.4mm so you'll have around 37mm of space left for a CPU cooler.

Thanks for your reply !
So the cpu cooler provided with the intel celeron will have no use because of its (too big) size ? What would you recommand me ? (not too expensive but still good)
Does this seams good to you ?
Also, what do you think of the remote ? Will it do the job ? Will it be able to wake up my box when completelly shutdown (or does it need to be in sleep) ?
And is it usefull to add the "be quiet! Shadow Wings SW1" fan, or is it optionnal and without impact ?

That CPU cooler should be fine. This one gets good reviews: http://www.computeruniverse.net/en/produ...rofile.asp so I would consider it as well.

I am not sure about the remote. It doesn't look like it has capabilities to turn on the PC but should be able to wake it from sleep.

With a 3.5" HDD in there I would consider getting two 80mm fans and putting them in a push-pull configuration.

Thanks for the link but I already saw these boxes and they are much more expensive once you include the power supply (which isn't included in the boxe's price)...

Great thank you for the hint ! (and it's 1/2 the price of the one I shown before)
For the to fans, is the "be quiet" good for the job ? Is there a cheapest (and still good) one ?

Concerning the remote, is it due to the remote itself or is it a general issue with remotes (and I have to deal with it) ?
Or maybe is there a remote which could do the job ?

This one maybe could do the job ? Akasa Ultra Quiet Amber Series € 6,40 (/piece) so € 12.80 (for two)

Concerning the case, I also saw the "Wesena ITX7" case which is pretty similar to Streacom's case but this one seams to include the power supply in its price which is lower to 80 €, if I'm not wrong ?
But is it as good as the realan (inter-tech) e-i7 case ? And I can hardly find a reseller who's shipping to Europa (particularly Belgium)

Could I put the same configuration to this case : Inter-Tech Mini ITX-E-i5 which costs € 58,47 (18.3 € cheaper) ?

We don't have "be Quiet!" brand here in the USA so it's hard to say if the fans are good or not. I use Gelid, Enermax and Noctua.

So you think this configuration should do it with your hints
about the cpu ans case fans ?
What about waking up the Motherboard from off state using à remote ?

Since I haven't used those brand fans, I cannot comment on them. I have used Akasa CPU coolers and they are fine. You will have to try those fans or find someone in the EU that has used them.

As for the E-i5 case, no you cannot fit a 3.5" HDD in that case.

As for the remote, it's a function of the IR receiver itself. I am not sure what options you have in the EU for adding a special IR receiver that can turn the PC on from off.
