[Release] Backup (formerly XBMC Backup)
When I want to restore a backup on my RPi4 I get an error. The backup was made 3 days ago. I extracted it successfully on my PC and copied it back.

We are all sitting in the same boat, but we are lucky that not everybody is on our side.

Not sure if @robweber is still maintaining the Backup addon:

Problem with Folder Naming:
Version 1.6.8 included with v21 Kodi Beta 2 (I'm using this on an Amazon Firestick 4K Max).

When I look at the backed up files (either inside the backup zip or the files copied by backup) the folder names under 'addons' and 'addon_data' all have the first character truncated:

Example: Folder script.artistslideshow is backed up as: cript.artistslideshow

Is this correct? I have not tried to restore as I don't want to copy those incorrect folders onto my device. (I assume its a bug)

EDIT: I just installed latest Kodi Win x64 v21 nightly and Backup Version 1.6.8 does not truncate the folder names. I need help on the Android issue.

Thanks

Hi community.

First of all thank you for amazing Kodi app being with us since long time ago. Thanks as well for people who created and maintain the backup add-on too.

I am however, facing some weird behavior when trying to restore the "profile" using this add-on. It just doesn't work and I don't know why...
I have two raspberry pi 5 and want to have same default settings equal on both ones. So I installed libreelec, configure it properly and created a backup using this add-on.
When restoring backup in the second raspberry pi (same libreelec version), it restores everything (add-ons, language settings,...) except Profile.
Indeed, when ssh to the second pi it appears the by default "Master user" one instead of the 2 profiles I have in the backup version.
If I try to overwrite the profile.xml file, once reboot it restores the "master user" one everytime.
Do anyone knows why this is happening and how can be fixed?

Thank you,

Hello!
Thanks for this plugin that saved my time!

I'm using two Android TV box running Kody 20.5. I have the exact same issue as @justhere experienced: Making a full backup and restore from one box to the other, or just a profile specific backup, the restored Kody has all its stuff in there BUT for the profiles!

I have two profiles one the first box and on the second one (where I performed the restore operation many times), only the "Master User" is available.

Because I'm running android stuff I'm not used with, I just don't know how to directly try to copy/paste profiles (and I suppose it won't work as depicted by @JustHere).

I would be happy to have this sorted out Smile

Many thanks

Kodi 21 on Android 12 Google TV.

Finally got this installed... there are a LOT of dependencies if installing manually via zip files on a device with no internet access. However, it doesn't seem to backup any custom files from Kodi's Android data files folder. For example, custom splash screen files go there and I've read that other things like custom fonts do also. In other words, be aware the addon currently can not offer complete backup/restore functionality. I don't know if anyone is still developing this addon but it would obviously be extremely beneficial if it could be updated to do a complete backup of everything required to restore an exact copy of the user's fully customized Kodi. Thanks in advance if anyone ever acts upon this feature request and, if so, please notify me. Also, if anyone knows of an alternate solution that will accomplish the same thing, please let me know. TIA

Version 1.7.0 on Kodi 21.0. Restore fails from a backup I made yesterday 4/20/2024. It worked yesterday. Not sure if the backup addon version was different yesterday. This is from a zip file backup.

Tried:
Reinstalling Kodi, reinstalling backup addon. Tried zip file from network drive. Tried zip file locally. I was able to get it working by unzipping to a local drive and then using restore.

Looks like a python error

Also tried on Kodi 20.5 and restore fails also.

Similar to what @mogulman said, 1.7.0 backup on V21.0 final, on NVidia Shields.
Backed up fine as normal compressed archive (I've done this backup/restore many, many times), but the zipped file is not visible after transferring to the destination, from the Backup addon.
  • note restore attempt was done on clean install (v21.0) with only addon Backup installed, restoring to 5 profiles (already created and empty, as per 19.5 process I've used for a long time).
Going to try uncompressed copy and see how that goes.
Either way, thanks to the maintainer for keeping this very useful addon going (as noted by the updated 1.7 version).

I have the same issue.. I have done a lot of backups restore with 20.5 and Backup 1.6.8  but since 1.7.0  it is not possible to load a compressed file like .zip

When I use compressed files it brings me a error msg and does not continue

can you fix that ? there is something wrong with the backup Version 1.7.0

EDIT :  I have installed over the Kodi Repo the 1.7.0  then I did disable the auto update function.
Then I did install the 1.6.8 via zip file.
I can use now compressed files like zip files.. Something is wrong with the 1.7.0 version.. Please fix that... thanx...
