it appears to provide an interface for selecting a drive to install openelec on, so presumably you can just cancel out at that point rather than proceed. And no idea what could be wrong, it seems to be a pretty straight forward process without much room for anything going wrong - I merely made the observation that from a pure troubleshooting perspective, you haven't proven that the USB works (by doing it in another PC)
