Hi, got told about XBMC recently with the add on 'mashup' downloaded it on Windows on my laptop, seems to be working okay.. But the main reason I wanted it was to get it on my tv. I have a samsung smart tv so I do have wifi, some people have told me the raspberry pi is the only way around it, is there any other way? I'm quite an amateur with all this but can follow instructions well, you probably get this all the time but I really like the look of having football streams etc for free! Any help appreciated thanks..

1. Mashup is verboten around here - so don't make your first post into your last :-)

2. Since your question isn't about the addon, I'll try to help - the answer is an HDMI cable from your laptop to your TV. Or, indeed, from any other supported platform to your TV - the Pi is one, but you can us various Linux, Windows, Apple and Android device. Have a look at the main downloads page off xbmc.org.

Sorry, what do you mean the pi is one? If like to be able to use it with a remote and not set up laptop every time...

If your laptop is old and doesn't have an HDMI port it probably has a VGA port (or S-Video). You can use these too, just Google 'connecting laptop to TV using VGA'.

He meant that the Pi is a supported platform.

Exactly what I meant - see http://xbmc.org/download/ for a view of what you can run XBMC on.

Yes it has a HDMI, if I was to use a pi could I then use a remote and not have wires everywhere etc? Would it be just located on one of the channels?

No, it'll appear as an HDMI input - you bypass the tuner, so it's not on one of the channels, it appears alongside DVR/PVR, BR player or whatever else you have.

The Pi or the laptop serve the same purpose, but the Pi is much smaller. Either way, you're basically shipping what you see on your laptop/computer onto your TV like it's a monitor.
