HOW-TO: Automated XBMC minimal installer v0.93 for Ubuntu 12.04 > 14.04 - [4/19/2014]
I'd love to, but frankly I don't use SABnzbd, Sonarr or CouchPotato and I simply don't have much time to work on that. The only think I did was basically renaming all xbmc occurrences to kodi in the original script and related ones. And since I'm not fetching the related ones from github but a subfolder - I replaced wget with simple cp.

Have you managed to update the script for Kodi installation? I'd love to give it a try Smile

I am working on an updated version that installs everything you need for an IPVR. You can unselect sonarr, CouchPotato, and Sabnzbd. And yes, it is 100% Kodi.

Code:
wget -O IPVR-setup.sh https://github.com/jknight2014/Kodi-IPVR-setup-script/raw/Testing/IPVR%2BKODI-setup.sh
Code:
sudo bash IPVR-setup.sh
USE THE SPACE BAR TO UNSELECT APPS YOU DONT WANT!!!
At the moment you still have to enter a bunch of data you dont need like usenet info. Its all optional. The only thing you will need for Kodi is a username and password.

Nice work. Consider adding SickBeard and/or SickRage as an alternative to Sonarr or to run in parallel. Personally I like the interface of Sonarr. It's absolutely gorgeous, but it always crashed for me. Also the mono dependencies are redic!

FYI mono and sonarr work awesome in 14.04. I switched from sickbeard after 3 years and fell in love. I heard all the horror stories from its earlier days but its had 100% uptime since I installed it 3 months ago.

Reddy, I am considering adding sickbeard. since upgrading to sonarr I dont like SB at all now and have been avoiding it. But I know its very popular so I will likely add support shortly. I also plan to package all this together so it can be installed offline but it will always download if it has the ability. I hope to preeseed this into the ubuntu server ISO and create a VM for the IPVR stuff.

Also, I plan on making a somewhat related script to automatically put together a LVM of multiple hard drives.

I was the one that suggested SickBeard ;-). However, SickRage > SickBeard IMHO. Making an offline install would be nice but SickRage has frequent commits. So your package would probable become outdated quickly. Anyway, thanks for all the work.

Actually, since the install of both is overall the same they will probley be added at the same time. Since all that needs to change is the repository to clone.

Oops, Almost forgot. To run SickBeard and SickRage in parallel, you'd need to create/modify init script and /etc/default/sickbeard. This is because SickRage and SickBeard both use the same files by default. Would not have been an issue if you SickRage just used "sickrage" for those files Undecided. Of course, if you're just going to have a choice of one or the other you won't have to worry about that.

They would be in separate directories so I think that would solve that but I think I would just let the user select one or the other. Kinda pointless to run both isint it?

Nevertheless, I combined your script with the old one form http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=141369, fixed a bit some additional scripts used during the installation and it works great.
I put everything on the first file hoster I found in google, I hope it will stay there for a while so you can take a look, if you wish.

Could you reupload your files or otherwise put them in a github branch? Filedropper seemed to have removed your files Sad.

I updated this script and it is forked on github.

https://github.com/jknight2014/xbmc-ubun...staller.sh

Code:
wget -O install.sh https://github.com/jknight2014/xbmc-ubuntu-minimal/raw/patch-1/12.10/kodi-ubuntu-installer.sh
chmod +x install.sh
sudo bash install.sh

I have extended the installer to include programs like Sonarr (Sickbeard alternative), Couchpotato, and sabnzbd. It is still in a beta stage but I uses some updated upstart scripts and includes apache web server for url rewriting.

You can use my knight cinema installer. The kodi installation is stable and you can unselect the other programs.

Code:
wget -O install.sh https://github.com/jknight2014/knightcinema/raw/master/setup.sh
chmod +x setup.sh
sudo bash setup.sh

On another note to this comment I make all custom init configs for everything. It allowes me to start one program after another. So Kodi starts first. Then once its started sab or nzbget start. Once one of them is running CP and SB/SR/Sonarr start. Then there no errors like the download client not responding and kodi starts faster. I am working on one for apache but I think I am going to switch to niginx or lighthttpd. Not sure which but both are lighter than apache especially since its only proxying.

Great Tongue.

What is the main difference between your knight cinema installer and the older installscript? Does it allow for more options?

I'm going to try to use this in combination with ubuntu 14.10 minimal and an AMD setup (E-350), I read in the topic that this does require me to take some additional steps or is this fixed nowadays?

The Knight Cinema installer asks all the questions up front and automatically applies updates. It uses a updated init config that covers errors better. If kodi locks up completely it gets restarted.

I might suggest using 14.04.1 since its a Long Term Support but its not necessary. The AMD platform should work fine but I dont have hardware to test so I would love to know how it works for you.

The Knight Installer also gives you the option to install Sonarr, Couchpotato, and NZBGet.

I tried the script and it didn't work without some tweaking. The $DISTRIB_RELEASE variable is not set I think, since it doesn't give the right options. I changed it in order to set the DISTRIB_RELEASE variable.
Now that is sees that I'm using 14.04 it does seem to start Kodi without any problems, however the mesa-vdpau-drivers package was not installed so I might need to do that myself in order to get the correct drivers.

Btw why does it automatically install apache, I thought Kodi doesn't need that. You might want to check if a user installs Sonarr, Couchpotato or NZBGet and only then install apache.

I do get a warning about the hidden grub timeout I will look into that tomorow.

Anyway the install script looks very nice Big Grin.

I am sorry I did not respond sooner, I stopped getting notifications.

Apache provides a reverse proxy. I am making a switch to nginx in the near future. It proxies for Kodi as well which is why its still installed. Are you using 14.04 or 14.10? I know it works fine with 14.04.1 but I have not tried it on 14.04.2 so that may be an issue.

Thanks for the feedback!

Anyone tried this on Ubuntu 15.x?
