Use libmmbd (MakeMKV) to play Blu rays on Windows

Wow Big thank you to the OP on this tip. It works well.

So just an FYI for anyone that has updated to Kypton V17 of Kodi. As you may have heard the DVDPlayer was replaced with a new player. Big overhaul so its a lot different ,but if you do upgrade you will want to simply put the files into the Kodi folder with the other .dll files and it will work fine.

So I'm running Windows 10 Krypton v17 of Kodi. I did what you said and copy/pasted the files to C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi ... is that the right spot?

Because it's still not working for me. The same files work for VLC media player. Any ideas?

Funny you ask because I just upgraded to win 10, but it still works for me. Did it work for you before v17? Also are you running kodi as an admin?

Also if you updated kodi since you put in the files you will have to do it again and each time you install update (which might be often now since v17 is not final yet)

I had this working in Krypton but it's not working for me in Leia, I'm just getting a "this content is encrypted" message. Any suggestions? (Windows 10 latest, latest MakeMKV, recent Leia nightly 64bit)

Since you're using the x64 build you should try using libmmbd64.dll.

I tried that, but Kodi crashed on startup. I'll make a log of that after work.

Could you also try if it is working with the 32 bit version (maybe use portable mode)?

Here is the log for me using libmmdb64. It didn't get past the loading screen before crashing: https://pastebin.com/QTYszf0k

And here's the log for 32 bit portable kodi with 32 bit libmmbd. It also crashed: https://pastebin.com/1f9R5uUM

ETA: interesting the 32 bit DLLs did not crash 64bit kodi.

Log wasn't useful, I've jumped through the code. It crashes inside libmmbd. No quick fix in sight. Meanwhile you could try to use libaacs for aacs protected disc. Since leia we llibaacs is included.
However we obviously can't provide the necessary keys. You should a way using a search engine Wink

Because it can't be loaded from 64bit codeWink

Thanks for looking into it for me. I'll do some reading on that Smile

As a follow-up, I was having a hard time getting the keys to work UNTIL I tried an older disc, then it worked great. I guess Criterion locks their movies down solid. It was cool seeing the BD menu working in Kodi!
