My question concerns differing streaming performance on Windows ( Desktop ) and Linux ( MyGica A11 ATV520 )

Internet download constant at 10 Mbps . Connection Hard Wired ADSL.

I have an Acer Aspire Desktop, running Windows 8. Xbmc Frodo 12.3 is loaded. This assembly consistently works extremely well.

However I also have a Linux My Gica A11 ATV 520 box, running Frodo 12.2. The performance on this is extremely erratic. When it's good - performance is great, but when it's bad, it's un-watchable. Picture break up, sound out of sync, constant re-booting.

Can anyone explain the difference in performance - is it just down to computing power, or is there a fault in the Box.

Any guidance would be appreciated

Impossible to tell without more information. What files? Are you comparing the same file? What codecs are they encoded with? etc etc. See Troubleshooting (wiki) for some ideas.

Well, I think Linux is known for it's low overhead. I think you're always going to find better performance on Linux vs Windows. On your Linux box, is it possible that you don't have the current video card drivers? Unless you need to run other programs, you can get best performance with OpenElec. You can install it to a USB stick and use it that way before committing and installing it permanently on your system.

Brilliant - Thank you - OpenElec solved my problem.
