Amazon Fire TV for XBMC
1) Don't know, but I still have a open ticket with Amazon about their VC-1 support claim. I'll update as I can find anything out.

2) One word Handbrake.

Re vc-1, as I already asked, isn't there a built-in player inside the FTV you can try them with?

The FTV does not have a stock video player as you would expect from other Android offerings. There is no movie/video player installed by default. The only way to play content on the FTV in its stock form is to stream it from Amazon or another App available in the store. When I open a video file in ES file explorer, I am only offered apps that I have side-loaded. The stock picture viewer shows up as an option, but as expected does not play anything, even local pictures don't load on it.
Thanks. Could someone try to sideload VLC?
I don't have a ftv (watching with interest) but do you have a pointer to vlc apks?
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)
Here is a link to their mirror for their apk's. http://get.videolan.org/vlc-android/ or the download page http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-android.html

I would test it but I have to head to work.
VLC gives the same result with vc-1 test file as XBMC and MX-Player. Starts with odd green artifacts then continues to play with inconsistent and poor frame-rate.

Thanks. I guess that deserves a word or two with Amazon regarding their VC-1 claim Wink
Wiki is down...Checked a cached version...

Installed xbmc-20140419-51d4cbd-Gotham-armeabi-v7a (latest nightly). Works nicely but my 1080 MKV has audio sync issue. Have to set audio 0.250s ahead to get it in sync...

Is this a general issue? Its a wired connection to a fast PC serving the video.

Just to be sure I tested with some more players and experienced the same behavior:

DicePlayer
Archos Video (with codec pack)
BSPlayer
MoboPlayer (reports that it is only able to perform software rendering)

Test file plays fine on my PC: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/530...dplus-5-1/

I get it with every Anroid box I've had so far when using an optical connection.

Generic issue with a lot of Android boxes.
Thanks... and for SPMC Wink Do I need to apply the adjustment on every video or is there a clever way to apply it globally?

It's a great little box and responsive, and such a pity Amazon didn't global launch it. I cannot buy apps from their store of course, or change the timezone to Europe. By the time they launch it I'll have loaded everything manually and they'll miss a Plex purchase too (although I bought it already on Android).

Bring on the custom Rom I say!!

You can make it default in the gui, or there is an advanced setting (can't remember which and wiki is down).
Does anyone know how to connect (ADB Maybe) and edit files on the FireTV? I need to do the script fix for the XBMC youtube app, the fix is to remove a folder.

After you do an "adb connect <IP>", regular adb commands work. Try "adb shell"
