Amazon Fire TV for XBMC
Oops... yeah I forgot about the different versions Smile I was actually on Ouya myself until last night
Looking for some help from those that are a lot more xbmc savy. i have 3 FTV, two of them are in kid rooms and i only want them to have access to the kid movies and kid tv shows. The way i have my folders organized are movies\kid_movies and movies\adult_movies (not porn, rated R movies) and tv\kid_tvshows and tv\adult_tvshows. so for 2 ftv which are in kid bedrooms i added two sources movies\kid_movies and tv\kid_tvshows and for the 3rd ftv that goes in my bedroom i add two sources tv and movie folder (which contain both adult and kid folders, so i get everything). I was wondering if there is a way to sync all three devices into one mysql server. or would i need two mysql running? also want to know if there is a way if my son watches comos s01e02 if it can mark it as viewed on my ftv as well as on his.

i still use the Ouya version, thanks again for the xbmc_thumbnails settings. i moved them all to my nas server using nfs. freed up 500mb of thumbnails.

Well, as I said, I suspect the FTV supports the simple and main profile of VC1 (aka WMV3) but not the advanced one, which is *commonly* known as VC1 and is used in bluray.
I would be interesting that someone tries to find such a WMV3 sample and test.

So Amazon is probably safe on the legal side if WMV3 is confirmed, but would be edgy regarding misleading its users in thinking they could watch their ripped VC1 bluray.

I looked through a bunch of Qualcomm developer pages but did not feel comfortable downloading their SDK. I had hoped that there would be a way to enumerate the codecs, but failed in that.

So you suspect that WVC1 (advanced) profile D ( levels 3 and 4? ) are missing? That sounds plausible. But from a licensing standpoint, I don't know why/how you would pay for the license pool and then not get the 'important' implementation.

I still suspect that there is a binary blob in someone's inbox that contains the 'rights' that didn't make it to a production image... These things happen.

Then again, you may rightfully consider me naïvely optimistic on some points... That also happens.

Did you have to set up XBMC again, or you just updated the advancedsettings.xml?

Using Yatse for a remote and it shows the adjustments and mute but that's it. No actual change.

I also have the same problem. As I'm currently running Frodo, I'm wondering if this problem is resolved in Gotham?

I experience the same thing with Gotham. Passthrough is disabled. It shows volume going up and down or muted, but no actual change happens.
My 24/96 FLACs are showing up on my receiver as 48khz (I did not check CD ripped FLACs (which would be 44.1khz)...sorry! . I'm using the Gotham build from the one linked to in the wiki. Anyone have some insight into this?
Gotham, beta 4:

From the movie information menu, when the movie has no 'cast' information, but does have stream details information, choosing 'refresh' will populate the cast but removes stream details info -- like video and audio codec information.

Not sure if this is a firetv-ism or a gotham-ism.
Still blazing fast doing actor-> movie lookups with local SQLite storage

Yes you need MySQL and two profiles. This is not a firetv question though, please use a the MySQL thread.

I'm on Gotham 4/19 and it happens on both boxes and regardless of the TV. I can also confirm that my open elec box running Gotham beta 4 does not have this issue and volume control works fine

Just as an aside, wondering what does Amazon gain by allowing side loading of apps? They generate revenue through Netflix, etc on their box, but what do they gain by other side loaded apps? I believe Apple, Microsoft etc have their boxes locked up tight
Ability for developers to test their apps prior to submitting to Amazon for certification.
I am not sure if Amazon pays Netflix to have its app on Fire TV. Amazon needs Netflix as much as Netflix needs Amazon. If the objective is to make AFTV a popular device, Amazon needs to incentivize developers to develop apps.

Amazon actually generates revenue from their Amazon Prime accounts and individual purchases. Sideloading is a developers tool so that devs can make their apps work with the AFTV. The more apps they have, the more apps they can advertise as working with the AFTV, the more units they'll sell. And the more units they sell the more (they hope) Prime accounts and individual purchases consumers will buy.

I've noticed this too, it doesn't happen on every video played but I've yet to find the common denominator.

Symptom:

Play a video (regular h264/aac) and time never increments past 00:00. SkipForward and SkipBack don't work and usually reset you back to 00:00. The same exact video file will play on SBMC on FireTV as well as OpenElec Gotham Beta on my ASRock ION without issue, so it seems limited to the Android Nightlies.

I'm not able to duplicate this issue in Gotham Beta 4. Which nightly build are you using?

I was using the most recent, 20140419 from the nightly. I've found that power cycling the FireTV also has a positive effect on this problem as videos that were misbehaving with this issue would work fine following a power cycle. I'm going to wait to see if it happens again and I'll report back with a debug log if it does.
