Amazon Fire TV for XBMC
Well what about a payed app in the appstore for codecs fees but also giving the option to download it for free in the xbmc homepage like we have now?

This way it will help spread the app for those who dont know or dont want to sideload apps.

My 2 cents...

Edit: i think this discussion doesn't belong here. This being a fire tv topic. Moderators can delete this message.

Hi, I'm not quite following steps 12 and 13. Why the long, weird filenames for the 2 PNG's? Do they need to be named exactly that way? Also, I'm using Classic TV, so where do I exactly push to (path please)? Thanks.

Where can I get the XBMC icon? A previous post said in the XBMC wiki. Is that the Fire TV page (I looked, but may have missed it) or just generally in the wiki?

Great work on the root. I can't wait to try later.

And to the poster above me, I would assume you would substitute com.nowthisnews.vidplay/B00FG4MO04/ with Classic TV's package name within com.amazon.venezia and then see where the icons are stored. A file browser like ES would likely help. EDIT: It looks like jjhtpc mentioned com.adrise.profilms/B00IIPRAZB4/ in his post.

That is how fire tv recognizes the image it must be named the same. Classic tv names might be slightly different you will need to look in /sdcard/.imagecache folder in the sub folder for profilms.
Thanks, will use ES File Explorer to check.

Change your country to USA from the Amazon website, find a dummy USA address, then you will need to download the apps you want directly from the Amazon Website and finally you need to download again the apps from your FireTV.

Thank you, but I believe I've found an application that works for me: Now This News
Apparently no geographical restrictions on that one :-)

Follow JJHTPCs directions regarding changing the icon, and with a slight correction it works beautifully.
In his post, he states the directory to be
Code:
/sdcard/imagecache
, but it should be
Code:
/sdcard/.imagecache

Thank you for the correction and I think I like your steps better than mine. It is probably better for the average user as it keeps them from rooting around the file structures and potentially causing harm.

I am finding that it is only happening with certain titles and only on the fire tv. I can play a given title on my chromecast or my computer without issues, but fire tv does not have sound. Also, I noticed that a title available in both netflix and prime had the same result. Here's an example: http://www.amazon.com/Adventures-Lalaloo...lalaloopsy

I'll also note that I tried restarting AFTV, force closing and clearing cache and data for both netflix and prime, and also uninstalling/reinstalling netflix app.

Sorry for posting this non-XBMC issue here but I know and trust this community better than anywhere else I might more appropriately find support for this issue. If anyone has a suggestion for a better forum to go to for this let me know.

If you are passing audio via HDMI and selected DD+ audio in system settings, make sure you have a receiver capable of decoding it. Otherwise select DD via optical out in settings if your receiver can handle that or just plain stereo.
Awesome, this worked! Receiver did not support DD+ See, I knew I could count on this community!

For clarification, I need to rename the downloaded XBMC icons (Preview & Thumbnail) to the nowthisisnews png file names derived from the sdcard image cache that you are using in steps 12 and 13. Is this correct?

So basically we're considering our options right now. We haven't given up hope just yet.
Several media players are in the app stores with built-in AC3/DTS disabled but with support for external plug-in libraries to enable it. Users just install the external libraries from a webpage and they're good to go. This seems to work fine.

I think we discussed this in another thread and your conclusion was that "yeah that would work but we don't want to be bothered". Which is of course your decision to make.

That is correct - I believe each application has different filenames for the icons.
I actually left out a step where i did
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/.imagecache/com.amazon.venezia/com.nowthisnews.vidplay/B00FG4MO04/
That way I could rename the downloaded XBMC icons a lot easier.

You need to enable Hidden files option.

I think you have to turn on "Show Hidden files" in ES. I did it awhile ago, and there was something weird I had to do. I think it wouldn't work with the remote, so I had to "click" it on my keyboard I had hooked up. There were directions somewhere.
Thanks. Got it using ADB shell commands via Windows CMD prompt...
adb ls /sdcard/.imagecache/com.amazon.venezia/com.adrise.profilms/B00IPRAZB4/ (Classic TV app)
