OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi Part 3 (Kodi 14.0)
I'm not going to guarantee that all Gotham plugins will work, but I think most should.

Yes things will break and are broken, we already know that some skins have problems with the audio/video OSD setting pages, and skin.widgets is choking on string splits() (due to PR4677) but most other things seem OK given my very limited testing. That could all change with the next build of course, who really knows... Smile

One thing to note is that the music db version has been bumped in Helix to v48, so if you have a music library and subsequently revert back to Gotham (v46) you will find that any music changes will have been "lost". Should you then upgrade to Helix again in future I would recommend dropping the v48 music db prior to upgrading so that your Gotham music db can be upgraded using the latest Helix database upgrade code. Hope this makes sense...
Texture Cache Maintenance Utility: Preload your texture cache for optimal UI performance. Remotely manage media libraries. Purge unused artwork to free up space. Find missing media. Configurable QA check to highlight metadata issues. Aid in diagnosis of library and cache related problems.
Thanks. Sounds fairly safe, then, if I stick to confluence and don't use XBMC for music.

Anyone using the new builds with MythTV?
Good evening,

Quote:Good evening. In the last few builds I've had problems with dvdplayer: the image freezes for a few seconds when playing a file (just tried mkv), audio is fine (I've been downgrading and OpenELEC-RPi.arm-Milhouse-20140426044857-r18266-g36251c3 is the last that works fine, OpenELEC_Helix-RPi.arm-Milhouse-20140503235917-r18335-gb2d3626 is quite good but the former goes better)

I have a similar - or maybe the same - issue too. HD-video playback from nfs-share with omxplayer is fine - but without alsa.
Video playback with dvdplayer stutters. Video output freezes for a second or so a few times a minute, sound freezes one time a minute or so. The issue is independent from the video-file, I found no one running smothly.

Yesterday I made a fresh installation of openELEC 4.0.1. Updated via samba-update to OpenELEC_Helix-RPi.arm-Milhouse-20140515053245-r18389-gd25aaa7. Both show the same issue. I think, it was the same with all the builds I tried with enabeled alsa-support. For instance OpenELEC-RPi.arm-3.95.3 still works fine, but has no alsa.

My setup:
RPi 2, videos on wired nfs-share,
video-output via s-video to crt-tv (Yes, it still works fine, so I still have no HDMI-flat-...)
audio via analogue-jack to stereo amp / via hifiberry-dac to stereo amp (that's why alsa needed).

Here is the xbmc.log, the same video first played with omxplayer, than with dvdplayer.

The dvdplayer playback shows a lot of buffer-problems, and so it looks like on the screen.

I hope this can help to identify the problem. Btw. thank You very much for this brilliant work on openELEC. The current GUI runs very fluency. And my old telly is nearly a smart-tv.

greetings

@popcorn
I skipped build r18277, my fault. It almost works, I mean, the image doesn't freezes, just stops for 1/10 second. It's the same as in build r18335. r18266 works better and any build between r18277 an r18335 works worse. I'm going to test latest build.
I can upload a sample but happens in every mkv I've tried...

Edit: r18411 works fine, at least as fine as 18277 :-) Some "script skin widget whatever error" now but probably nothing to worry about.
Thanks both of you, pocornmix and MilhouseVH.

Edit2: probably it has something to do with this :-)

nevermind. problem seems to be resolved after resetting.

(Supercedes previous build)

With this version sometimes it get stuck on openelec startlogo with milhouse release text on it, and other times i get a dirty startup with stuck on xbmc interface/layer or something text. Got back to previous release to see if happens.

Dont know how to provide log for that cases.
Try removing "quiet" from cmdline.txt - this should show the startup units as they're loaded, see if it's the same unit each time. Does it get far enough to start ssh?

I like your builds, because they are the only Helix builds around, and i like to see the development and improvements.

But i have a strange issue, i think.
After starting your build, i have a high utilization between 60 and 80%, without doing anything. Usually are 20-30% on my RPi (on OE)

Maybe its just me, the SDCard, or whatever else, but i'll attach the debug-log, just to be sure.

http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=204256

Edit: I didnt see that an update is available, i updated, and its the same behaviour.
On my 1GHz Pi, it takes XBMC about 2 minutes to settle down to 20% load - during the first two minutes the Pi is maxed out by addons starting up.

Or are you saying it stays at 60-80% load several minutes after starting, with no obvious activity, and with just the main menu selected? Make sure you don't have any scrolling text on screen, as that will send the CPU load through the roof. It could be a rogue addon, try starting with a fresh .xbmc, then add your addons one by one until you identify which is causing the high load.

Just after startup, or permanently?
It is usual to have high cpu for the first minute or two (all the add-ons initialise and try to update).
If it stays high continuously then try booting with .xbmc renamed.
That will disable the add-ons and custom settings and you can tell if it's core xbmc taking the CPU or your add-ons/settings.

Yep, thats what i meant.

2 or 3 builds ago, i was simply amazed, how "speedy" and responsive your builds are, in comparison to Gotham/OE4.
And i hadn't this behaviour.

I havn't changed anything since this, no new addons installed or anything like this. Just updated your builds via OpenELEC Dev Update.

Can you still do the test of renaming .xbmc. We need to know if the busy cpu is part of core xbmc or an add-on.

Can you give me any advice how to do that?

Via smb i'm not able to do that, and well, i'm searching for a solution myself, but no luck so far.

I'm using Win 8.1, if this matters.
You'll need to connect with ssh - download PuTTY for Windows then login to your OpenELEC client as user root, password openelec and run the following commands:
Code:
systemctl stop xbmc
mv .xbmc .xbmc.bak
sync
reboot

This will now restart your Pi without any third-party XBMC addons (or advancedsettings.xml, or media library).

Confirm if the idle load is reduced - if it is, then it's being caused by an addon. You could now reconfigure your system and add addons one by one monitoring the CPU load until it stays high, then you know which addon is causing the problem.

Or, to revert back to your old settings:
Code:
systemctl stop xbmc
rm -fr .xbmc
mv .xbmc.bak .xbmc
sync
reboot

Seeing the same as RaVeNV1, cpu 70-80% with no activity.
This is with a new xbmc folder.
