Release GQ (formerly Gentleman's Quarterly) Addon
#1
New addon for GQ Magazine. 1080/720 HD videos from GQ magazine. GQ (formerly Gentlemen's Quarterly) is an American monthly men's magazine focusing on fashion, style, and culture for men, through articles on food, movies, fitness, sex, music, travel, sports, technology, and books.

my repo: https://github.com/learningit/plugin.video.gq/

Let me know how it works, if it is stable I'll add to the official repo. Thanks.

Had a look, I'll probably pass on the details site. It's based on Brightcove, which I've handled several times before, but the stuff around it is some of the worst written html support I've seen. It'll probably change frequently, which takes time and effort to maintain as an addon. Aside from which, the video is low def and other than a short shoot with Olivia Wilde, quite boring.

This was working well, with a lot of content, but now I see that all the sections are empty... Sad

Thanks, haven't looked at this in a while.
Website changed. New version is 1.0.6. Has been submitted to the kodi.org repo, should be updated in a few days.
For those who can't wait, it's available in my git:

Can we please have the ability to set views from the Addon settings? With multiple categories inside the Addon it's not very user friendly to have to set views for every Category, on multiple devices.

Also, I notice that the Media Info view in CCM Helix (Confluence Custom Mod) is able to be set at Video Level, but then Media Image becomes Fan Art instead of the Video Thumbnail? But the Video Thumbnail displays correctly in the other views?

For information I can say that the Media Info view works correctly at Video level in your DIY Network Addon.

However in GQ I can confirm that I can set this same Media Info view at Category level - thank you, but the Media Image is only the GQ icon. For this Addon, in the other views the GQ icon is also the only Media Image displayed.

I also posted similar questions for some of your other AddOns GQ, PBS, HGTV, and DIY Network are the ones I use, but maybe similar issues exist for your other Addons too?. Each one seems to work slightly differently as far as the views are concerned.

I guess as a minimum it would be nice if for the Media Info View, at Video level, the Media Image can be the Video Thumbnail - like it is for your DIY Network Addon.

THANKS Smile

Saw jmh2002's ask for learningit in the different add-ons' thread, good ideas!

Another ask that I wanna throw out there for all of learningit's add-ons, is DNS setting possible?

Keep up the good work with your busy schedule!

Can you give me an example of an addon which supports DNS?
Most of my addons that need DNS support need it for the playable url which is outside the scope of the addon, so I'm not sure how to achieve that,

Sure thing - USTV VOD does this (I don't know if it's a good example)
The Github is here: https://github.com/moneymaker365/plugin.video.ustvvod
Settings.xml has a DNS proxy setting section.
And in the Lib folder, there's a proxy.py resolver file

It's a good enough example to see that I don't want to try that right away - pretty complex and I'm not sure that it will work with the playable urls that need a DNS/VPN proxy without setting up an http/https server to feed the Kodi player through. A lot of unknowns for me at this point, may be in the distant future I'll give it a go.

In the meantime, i'll find something simpler. I recall that there was another add-on that does DNS. I'll share it with you once I found it.

I liked your answer! :-)

Hi @learningit

I recently updated to Kodi Jarvis v16 and thereafter received the latest updates for your addons too. Unfortunately the GQ addon now doesn't seem to respect the SD vs HD setting and videos seem to be played in 1080 regardless, which causes crashes on some of my older low powered devices. Prior to the updates I was able to play the very same videos in 720.

Can you maybe check this when you have a moment please? THANK YOU Smile
