How to upgrade tvheadend on openelec i386
#1
Hi. Can someone point me to an idiots guide to updating my version of tvheadend (3.4) to a more current version on an i386 generic build of openelec. I have ssh access but I'm not quite clear what I need to do. Thanks, Martyn

Brutal, but you could compile OE from source and change tvheadend while you go.

<checks>

Or you could just compile master, that includes 3.9.x:

<checks elsewhere>

Looks like you may be able to just download and install as a zip - bearing in mind that the next OE update may well wipe it out again, though, as you'd be in version conflict:

Looks like those are for 64 bit versions.

Do I have to uninstall the previous version before installing the latest? or is linux clever enough to sort that out? Am I better off waiting until the latest versions enter the stable OE build?

I doubt you necessarily have to uninstall - but installing a new version without at least *disabling* the old one isn't likely to be pretty.

I don't know when OE's master will become a new release - it doesn't seem that later tvheadend (3.9+) is built into the 4.x branch (looks like that's on 3.4.27), and that's the new Gotham-based code that's only just been release. You might be waiting for some time before it's all out there, then, although I've never tracked how quickly OE code makes it to the field.
