Synology DiskStation 12-Bay (Diskless) Network Attached Storage DS2413+

I am trying to figure out if a 12-Bay NAS is worth buying. I want to fill it with 4TB western digital green hard drives. it costs about .15 cents per kw in my area.

Check out the red drives. They are made for a nas and auto power down. Sorry I can't answer your power questions. I use a Dlink nas and had bad luck with the green drives.

Here's the RAW data from both Synology and Western Digital's webs:

NAS Power Consumption:
  • IDLE: 41.8 W
  • Access: 111.1 W

WD Green 4TB Power Consumption:
  • Read/Write: 4.5 W
  • Idle: 3.3 W
  • Standby/Sleep: 0.4 W

There's no power consumption difference between the WD Green 4TB HDD and the WD Red 4TB HDD.

So if you get 12xHDDs, the max power consumption you will get should be around 165 W if you're using all of the HDDs at the same time.
