So my question is, is there way to ignore certain messages from the window UI. Specifically when playing streaming videos. They just seem a little superflous as we don't really need to know the video is playing if we can hear it's own audio start up first.

Well, the video could fail to play, and in that case you wouldn't know it had even tried to start.

Actually when video streams fail it normally pops up an error window saying item failed to play. I cannot remember the exact wording but I know when youtube streams fail to play that is what I get and if you have GUI sounds turned on you get a warning beep.

A thought occurs to me. In the System settings - Audio section. It lists the GUI sounds options as being NEVER, ONLY WHEN PLAYBACK IS STOPPED, and ALWAYS. Can we have a similar option in Kodi Screen Reader where it will disable on video playback and hopefully will not over ride the audio of the video playing?

This could be an option. Of course, this would stop the addon from speaking the seek percentage and such.

Yes I understand that in video controls would fail to be spoken which itself is quite nice but alas only works if you are using pulseaudio and can handle multiple audio streams. Alsa seems less forgiving and of course if you are piping to an external player then you have an added lock to deal with.

It seems to be more noticeable when videos lag or buffer before starting. But that can be quite a problem if the name of the video stream is quite long as well as it seems to read out the whole video stream name as well as telling you the video is fullscreen and that is always going to over run the start of the videos audio.

I am not sure what is the best solution really but I would like my father to be able to listen to online video streams and in fact the DVB service provides some on line streaming channels by default.

Maybe I can teach my father to turn off and turn then screen reader before he starts watching online streams.. but I know the real solution is to just use pulse audio but gonna be more complicated as I am using OpenElec

Hey I just had an idea.. Use a secondary sound card. Specifically a USB one that can work JUST for the speech. That way would not matter if it spoke over the other audio would it. I'd have to add an option to the player to make sure it selects the right sound device.. but that should not be too difficult now I know where to pass options to the mpg321 player.
