Hi,
I'm new here...so be gentle.
I have a DTS,AC3,DTS-MA,Ac3TRUE HD capable receiver...still I can not get 5.1 sound[analog or "passthrough"] using XBMC.My machine is Tronsmart MK 908 II.Rom is Finless 1.6.
However passthrough works when using Mxplayer if in HW decoding mode.....
Any ideas?

P.S.Gotham versions even do not recognize any passthrough device AT ALL!!
Frodo versions do recognize an"android track PT" for passthrough but works in stereo only

This is boring ... you could have searched at least. And asking for "beeing gentle" doesn't help here really. This question was asked at least 10 times here.

Ok...got it!
Android needs a "hack" for enabling passthrough.
What about DECODING the multichannel audio stream to 5.1 LPCM ?[can't do this either].

P.S.Video has also problems...is very "choppy",sometimes stops playing.[.i do not have the buffer problem].
I think it might be the poor accelerated HW decoding...

Andriod Audio supports 2.0 stereo streams only from the google API side afaik. LPCM is a nono atm.
