Google Nexus Player

When starting Kodi, it will attempt to start, maybe show the Kodi splash screen, but then crash. I tried both with stock rom and then installed LineageOS. Kodi show the same behavior on both systems. I then installed from here:

Unfortunately, the plugins don't seem to work.

I almost forgot: Kodi from Play is the Arm version, Kodi from the Reddit thread above is the self compiled x86 version that works. But plugins don't seem to work on the one above.

Something you should probably be made aware of is that Nexus Players are starting to get pretty old now, and their eMMC failure rates spiked dramatically in mid/late 2018 around the time of the final system update.

Note that contrary to part of the theme of that thread, the firmware update is NOT directly related, in that the firmware isn't defective, rather the firmware update caused part of the system to be installed over a worn-out segment of the eMMC, triggering the obvious failures. Since there have been no further system updates, all system data has, for most people, remained in a read-only state -- not being moved around, and retaining readability, so the failure rate has fallen since then. My wife told me a few days ago that ours is starting to "act funny", so I suspect that its on its way out.
