Slightly better, but need to test more. In brief tests, PQ seemed sharper. Plan on watching a full movie (2D) today to check if I notice any HD audio or frame skips with 23.976. I'll also watch 20-30 minute segments of high bitrate 3D ISO's like 'The Avengers' final battle sequence, parts of 'John Carter' that have peaks near 90Mbps, etc.

Me too. There's good possibility Shield console will do 24/60fps for sure, maybe even 23.976. Also, 5.1 and 7.1 likelihood as it's mentioned in the specs. 3D I'm unsure as there isn't a standalone player for Android is there that could be sideloaded and used as external player for Kodi in Shield?

So we are up to always use highmediaplayer for playback
i truly hope its true what you say about using even future kodi versions
Cause sometimes this breaks everything and highmedia wont support it for older hardware that time

To check atmos
have one of these:
2014
Transformers: Age of Extinction
Expendables 3 (UK release, BE versie heeft gewone DTS-HD)
Teenage Mutant ninja Turtles
Step Up All In
BBC World documentaire: Enchanted Kingdom (Voorlopig enkel in Japan te krijgen)

2015
John Wick (2015)
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (6 maart '15)
Gravity: Special Edition (31 maart '15)
On Any Sunday (Red Bull Media House): Release date February 17, 2015
Unbroken (Universal): Release date March 24, 2015

For watched flag... try using the new trakt addon
that sets movies to watched.. (even with kodi on windows and external, im doing this for now))

i have test: FULL 3D iso :Transformers , Teenage Mutant ninja Turtles e remux 2d, Gravity and demo disc atmos :
- without patch NO sound
- with patch my A/V reciver sonud Dolby True HD ( i don't have atmos ) without problmes

i will try trakt addon

i play all my file from NAS.
When playing videos via Kodi i see For about 0.5-1 second HiMedia wrapper app.
kodi -> wrapper -> himediaplayer

i think that himediaplayer need local folder mount for net shared file
If you use himediacenter to play net file and than go to mnt linux dir you see the net folder.
But i am not sure.

Same here; maybe Caramba69 is using local USB? Anyway, I don't always see the HiMedia wrapper app, only half the time. Not a dealbreaker.

Re: PQ testing, I don't have a 4K display, so testing via my 1080p 3D BenQ W1070 projector on a 133" screen.

TimeScapes 4k is 309 GB file ... Big Grin, there is also TimeScapes to 1440p, it's nice for test quality because image move slowly so i can see the difference.

Okay, after more testing, I've updated my review here. Basically, PQ not as good as Chromebox (which has buttery smooth, film-like playback, while Q5 looks slightly more digital or processed). Also, I don't get audio with anything ATMOS (as my unit won't accept HiMedia's ATMOS patch). I looked at the Chinese forum (using Google Translate), but doesn't appear there's an ATMOS patch for Q5's for China market.

At this point, as badly as I want a single do-it-all player, I'm leaning toward keeping Chromebox for everything non-3D, and sticking with my Mede8er 600X3D for 3D ISO's. While the Q5 4K is better than VidOn in many respects, it still can't match M8R for 3D, nor match Chromebox for 2D PQ and speed. For AQ, both M8R and Chromebox support ATMOS, while appears only the EU versions of Q5 do.

Q5 is a step (or couple of steps) forward from VidOn, but not quite there with Android.
