Kodi Animation thread
#1
Because the logo idea thread worked so well, we’ve got one last request. As previously mentioned, one of the most popular logos that we weren’t able to go with owed a great deal of its popularity to a REALLY cool animation associated with it. It was so popular internally that it reignited the idea of eventually animating the Kodi start screen. And so our request, our challenge to you all is this: animate the official Kodi logo. Make it look awesome. While it’s far too late for an animation to make it as the boot image for Kodi 14, there’s a very real chance that your work could be the first thing all of our over two million users see in Kodi 15 or sometime in the future.

To submit your animation, save it as an animated gif to imgur or your preferred image sharing site. Then post it in this thread. We look forward to seeing what you come up with. Additionally, you can pull from a number of other official logo variations from this page, though we’ll probably prefer a dark or black background for any final animation.

Pretty cool, though the lines in the "K" icon are not the same size. The vertical line is slimmer than the other 2. I like the concept though

Nice--simple and effective.

Nice Zampa!

Natethomas did one somewhere. Maybe he didn't post it because he's shy about his graphics abilities, but it was pretty good :)

nice.

really nice idea Zampa. The rotation part is a bit too long for my taste, but I don't have a better solution/suggestion on that. Maybe sort of a heart beat instead of rotation, or pulsing square in a way that the logo want's to break through?

Another idea would be a simple square starting to get cracks with light beams coming out from the inside until it explodes to the logo - but this requires some CG pro.

Although this is amazing its missing some cool factor, wish it had more colours. and looking at the nexus splash screen I think it needs more 3d effect, something that takes you to the logo rather than the logo come to you, or abit of that. BUT you have skills that I can't measure to. great work! nice thread by the way team kodi.

The colour is wrong, and I can't say I like the rotation very much personally. The explosion is very nice though!

Well, one way to add more graphical effect would let the initial part with the spinning cube to be a wire frame based cube which moves to the next animation phase using some heat/smear effect which forms the original logo. And loose the Kodi text part for such intro or make it more subtle and focus on the grapical part.

It wasn't so much being shy as not wanting to influence the design of others. I did the same thing for the mascot contest.

The visual elements are directly pulled from the svg, so the color was not changed by me. It might be just a byproduct of conversions and compression to gif format.

I tried making that gif visible, but gfycat really seems to hate our forum software.

edit: Nevermind. It turns out the gif simply isn't set to repeat, so if you embed it, you'll typically just see the end of it. For future reference, I'd recommend making animations hold for a few seconds at the end, then repeat. Also, the embedding code would look like this:

Code:
