This is a limitation with the current configuration utility. Configuration is per-device, not per-player, so different players with the same device must use the same keymap. Kodi still sees two controllers, so even though they use the same buttonmap, they can control two separate players.
I'd like to overcome this limitation. I think that a "player manager" would solve this, where you can configure each player's buttonmap separately. This would also open up some cool features, like tracking high scores and other statistics. What do you think?

Ah ok, now i understand. We are creating generic device buttonmaps, not player buttonmaps. (Makes sense)
I think configuring every player seperately would make it very complex, while the advantage is not that rewarding.
I'd like to think that my friends/players use the same buttonmaps.

But your quite correct that at some point you have to assign the connected devices to the players.
It would be cool if we could add controller icons to a VID/PID buttonmap so we can make this a bit more graphical?
Maybe also a controller description to the buttonmap could be usefull? Or is the devicename uique for a VID/PID?

I'd love that idea about high scores and statistics. Were you thinking of creating some kind of user/player accounts?
These accounts can mabe also be used for personal savestates, netplay, parental controls etc.

This sounds like a bug. Keep in mind, that sometimes DPADs are seen as two axes that can take on the discrete values (-1.0, 0.0, 1.0). Kodi should handle this just fine. I'll try to locate a controller without analog sticks and see if I can reproduce.

Well i also think it is related to the "analog" button on the controller. (The one with the red led above it, between the analog sticks)
When this button is enabled or disabled the d-pad and analog axis work differently.
I'll try to find out what is causing this. I don't think you can detect if the ps dualshoch controller is in analog or digital mode?
