I'd say the latter gerry
still best to have a dedicated media box I reckon

The mentioned "XBMC4STB" project with its native source port of Kodi/XBMC for Vu+ is still at a very early stage at not at all mature or stable, and most core features in Kodi are not even working yet, and functions not yet working include PVR client for Vu+, hardware video decoding playback via Kodi, and the same goes for many addons/plugins.

This means that unless you are developer yourself that can help the project with code improvements then the recommendation is probably to not use Vu+ hardware for Kodi today.

If you really want to get a proper "fully compatible" Kodi experience on a DVR device today then you should probably instead have gone with a http://kodi.wiki/view/WeTek_Play and http://kodi.wiki/view/OpenELEC

Kodi 15.2 native port for Vu+ (Duo2, Solo SE/2), an opportunity for Team-Kodi?

Just read that an outdated native port of Kodi for Vu+ (popular Linux/MIPS based set-top box) have been updated to v15.2 by a third-party developer called mx3L.

http://forums.openpli.org/topic/40225-ko...nd-vuduo2/

He have still not ported the internal DVDPlayer video player in Kodi, so for now it relies on external video players, thus unfortunately make it an overall poor experience for most existing Kodi fans, so can't really be recommend to end-users for daily use as of yet.

https://github.com/mx3L/xbmc/tree/vu_kodi_15_2

Maybe an porting opportunity for team Kodi devs to reach out to the Vu+ company and help improve this "XBMC4STB" port for a fee?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vu%2B#XBMC...t_by_Vu.2B

It was after all the company itself who ported XBMC to thier devices in the first place, but since they never added native hardware accelerated video decoding the port and then also didn’t promote the port, its was never name popular and that is probably why the company never bothered to continuously update it to later versions of Kodi; typical catch-22 situation.

Proper full native port of newer Kodi versions running the internal video player hardware video accelerated decoding on the Vu+ (Duo2, Solo SE & Solo2) series would be awesome!
