.ifo (DVD-Video) unplayable from LanDrive SMB NAS box
#31
ya there fine, and the xbmc also plays it fine if playing from the *.vobs. but im only confirming for your original post that its not the landrive at fault, otherwise this topic isnt a problem for me.
#32
What build of XBMC are you using. I think mine is CVS 2006-07-16 T3CH build. Anyway, my XBMC would play ifo files correctly from HDD in the XBOX. Do you have a log of the when playing the file from local HDD?

Do you see errors like this:

05:54:50 M: 38064128 DEBUG: libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.IFO.
05:54:50 M: 38064128 DEBUG: libdvdnav: vm: failed to read VIDEO_TS.IFO
05:54:50 M: 38133760 ERROR: InputStream: Error opening, E://VIDEO/TESTDVD/VIDEO_TS.IFO

I've got the same problems, although not always. I've managed to get avi's and other files running without any probs from my NAS, I've got a 08/06/2006 T3ch build and running my-nas41/loader67. There seems to be no real pattern in whether or not the ifo files get played. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm trying to find out why this happens.

I can click on the ifo movie (video_ts) and nothing happens... And sometimes it works like a charm.
#34
Okay, yesterday I've tried something different, I've deleted al titles from my video library and on the NAS deleted all non-movie files, which left me with only the VTS_0x_x.vob files of around 1GB, and of course the last file being smaller.

The I've added the folder to the library again, with the IMDB information. Now it seems all movies always work. Is there a know issue with ifo files being played through NAS?

This work around is great for me, as I don't watch the extra's. Audio and subtitles are still available.

FYI; because of the problem(s) with these LanDrives I took some time today to create a LanDrive article on wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org) and added the little information I could find on the internet about these LanDrive devices. Feel free to update that wikipedia article with more information (like firmware versions/download-locations and suppor contacts for them, etc.), please also check/correct my spelling and grammar.

Now I'm pretty sure that this problem has the same root cause (permissions?) with the LanDrive integrated SMB-sever as reported here:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=18282

As stated by our developers; there is not much we (or the SAMBA developers) can do to troubleshoot these NAS box problems when we have one of these LanDrive devices ourself, as we can not replicate the problem without one.

Other than that, what could possible help us troubleshoot this is if you can provide a ethereal capture logs from when these problems happens, (if you can do such test that only your computer is connected to the Xbox via a cross-over cable, so there don't get any interference into the logs). Even better would be if you could do test your LanDrive against libsmb (the samba smb-client) version 3.0.23 on a Linux computer, as the client instead of the Xbox/XBMC. Then the samba developers could possibly be of more assistance to help solve this.

PS! YOU who own a LanDrive, YOU should really all rally together and report these issues to the LanDrive OEM manufactur and also to the branded versions of the LanDrive, (the LanDrive seems to be manufactured by one "OEM" company and then other companies buy those to label/brand them as their own and sell them to end-users? some with slightly different firmwares, or at least different versions). Because if you all lobby it together (and induvilually) then maybe they will fix any 'LanServer' firmware problems for the LanDrive devices.

I have the MaPower KC31N landisk and had the same problems.

You will find that with the betarelease of the v45 firmware the problem has been solved. video_ts files load properly now and on top of that, the FTP upload speeds have increased to 3.3MByte/s

http://www.station-drivers.com/page/landisk.htm
http://www.mapower.de/deutsch/index.htm

I still have to check if the >4GB file barrier problem is still present (as on the v41 firmware).

Edit.

My older DVD files play superb.
A newly uploaded folder cannot be opened by XBMC while the older ones can.
Must be something with rights. Problem is how to set them properly.

#38
Edit2

Forget it!!
v44 and v45beta both mess up the folder rights. Newly made or uploaded folders simply cannot be opened.
I reverted to v41 again.

Hello,

Same problem here with my MaxInPower SAN (BEMIP35ULI).
When I upload some files on my SAN, with FTP or with Samba, i can't read the directory under Xbmc (Access Violation...).
Under my (linux|osx|windows), no problem.

I don't know if firmware exists for this SAN. So if anybody may help me Rolleyes
I can make a tcpdump with my linux box...

Thanks for your help... and thanks for XBMC !

Hello,

you can download an ethereal capture where i try to play VIDEO_TS.IFO at the link below.
http://panoupanou.free.fr/xbox.pcap

XBOX is 192.168.8.13
LANDISK is 192.168.8.15

here a link on my NS-347 LANDISK (BASIC41 FIRMWARE)
http://www.a-tecsubsystem.com/websys...=1143390554581

I again tested Media Player Classic on Windows XP. When i select the VIDEO_TS.IFO from my LANDISK, the movie plays correctly.

I hope this can help you to find a problem.

Thanks for all

fabulon, you happen to have the xbmc log that goes to that capture? it's abit interesting to note that it is trying to open the video_ts directory as a file and succeds (this normally fails), however it never manages to read anything from the directory then it probably gives up.

the server seem to be responding that the directory is not a directory, thus it try to open it as a file.

<edit> the server seems to be abit scitso.. one of the flags say it is a directory, another say it's not </edit>

ok, some more digging. the server actually does indicate that it's a directory and we interpret it as one. HOWEVER, after this has been decided it tries to open it as a file as it could be a symlink to an actual dvd device. this fails on this server thou as the server for some reason allows us to open it, thus it thinks it's an actual device. it won't find out the error untill it tries to read from it and get's nada..

This is entirely a server error........ that said I suppose we could work around it by skipping that opening step since it's kinda only valid when you are playing locally and can do proper css authentication. will think about it.

thank's elupus for your reply.

What do you think about that ?
