NOOB Question - PI or PC
#1
Hello Everyone!

Noob question here, I am running KODI through my PI right now for movies and i love it. But now i am exploring the add ons and some add ons look really choppy through my projector.

I am asking if anyone has had a better experience through the PC compared to the PI?

I know this is a NOOB question, so please take it easy on me Big Grin

Thanks

Solution:
5V/2.0 Amp Power Supply and Overclock the Pi. Its a must do.
Basically pull the SD card out of your RPi and plug it into a PC then search for the config.txt file and modify.

If you see little square rainbow boxes on the Kodi screen when you overlock your power supply is inadequate.

Plus read this:

Other issues you may have:
- WiFi interference if your not using a dual band usb dongle
- Dodgy add-ons, some may likely fall under this banned list, and for those we cannot help.

- Slow internet servers streaming video over the internet to the Pi

I've never used the pi with kodi but I have never had any issues with my PC. Only thing I wish I had done is put an ssd in it. Smile. Another advantage to using a PC is that you can use other applications with it. For instance I like using wmc for watching live tv.

The Pi is amazing for any of the playbacks HD ( 1080 ) especially

As said above you need a minimum class10 SD and OC is a must ( use Leopold's GUI add-on ..its so painless )

but the thing that puts the Pi ahead of most device's ( even quad core ) ( except HTPC and NUC ) is go USB3 and OC to 1200 ( I have a Pi running 1325 )

Grab a SanDisk extreme USB3 and a apple Ipad 2.5 amp charger

Are you hard wired or WiFi ?

usb3 are pretty redundant in the year 2015, unless you need extra storage space.
They were used back in the early days of the RPi when slow class 4 SD cards were around, not the quicker modern day class 10's.

Plus this setup just confuses and complicates matters for new users.
That usb3 thread on Openelec forums is way out of date, unless you have a very old and crappy SD card.

Just beware single band WiFi is subject to microwave oven interference on the 2.4Ghz band is that's a concern to you.

I tried flashing my other Pi B and the settings do not match anything - i put the SD card in my pc and found some that match but most of them are different.
