How does the Intel stick differ from the Meego that was announced last year and which shipped from Aliexpress in December?

aliexpress isn't exactly well known in the U.S.
Either is Meego....

Intel's idea of implementing the Intel Stick is the same as their idea of the NUC. To get more people to see that it's a viable platform to sell.

Also this is said in the comments about the MeegoPad

"I actually got the Meegopad. But it does not come with a Windows license. They have preinstalled Windows 8.1 without activation. Cheap trick. The licnse cost more than the stick."

So if you take the fact that you have to purchase Windows for the MeegoPad then yeah the Intel Stick comes out $50 cheaper.

I would expect the intel stick to be of higher quality materials, as well. I've seen many HDMI sticks where a port here or there just kinda of snaps off..

On this site http://www.heise.de/ct/artikel/Test-PC-i...17149.html (german), they say that all sticks are produced by one company Quanta. And that they have thermal issues. Because of the passive cooling approch the clock rates go down to about 100Mhz if you use all cpu and gpu power.

Even playing 720p give hickups...
If the intel stick is similar (they use the same CPU), then they will have the same problems.

For me, who lives in the UK there is;

Import cost
Potentially dodgy version of windows 8

Much rather have a reliable intel version than one of these unknown ones

You would most likely buy the linux version with less RAM/Storage for $89

Not to troll, be a fanboy, or hijack this thread....

For an HDMI Stick device to run Kodi, I'm still thinking that an Amazon Fire TV Stick would be a more rounded choice, as you can use Kodi for your personal media pleasures, coupled with Kodi Add-ons, as well as have the access to the native Fire TV apps for streaming (i.e. Netflix, Hulu, Prime, ESPN, etc). And the AFTV Stick is significantly cheaper.

I guess what I'm saying is for the price point of this HDMI Stick device, others already exist for much less money...

The AFTV Stick is a good streamer, especially if you want to watch AIV. That said, I will probably be ditching my for a Compute Stick when they come out. To me running a full desktop OS and a USB port puts this in a different league. Windows and Linux can both access all the same content, and more, than the FireTv Stick, but can be customized to access it many different ways. Having a USB port adds lots of options for interacting with that content.

I am waiting too. Like to redo my HTPCs and if one of these will stream my videos for Kodi & Snapstream then I would be set.
