Openelec 5 kodi - retroarch - xbox pad config
#1
Hi all!!
I have Openelec 5 Helix with kodi 14
i download a zaggash's retroarch from
emulator.retroarch-3.2.4.2014-03-12

i'm working to setup the retroarch configs, but i'm not able to get all working with xbox 360 pad working..

now my configs are:
1) in /storage/.kodi/addons/emulator.retroarch/config/retroarch.cfg
Code:
## Skeleton config file for RetroArch

# Save all save files (*.srm) to this directory. This includes related files like .bsv, .rtc, .psrm, etc ...
# This will be overridden by explicit command line options.
savefile_directory = "/storage/emulators/retroarch/save"

# Save all save states (*.state) to this directory.
# This will be overridden by explicit command line options.
savestate_directory = "/storage/emulators/retroarch/save"

# Automatically saves a savestate at the end of RetroArch's lifetime.
# The path is $SRAM_PATH.auto.
# RetroArch will automatically load any savestate with this path on startup if savestate_auto_load is set.
# savestate_auto_save = false
# savestate_auto_load = true

# Load libretro from a dynamic location for dynamically built RetroArch.
# This option is mandatory.

# If a directory, RetroArch will look through the directory until it finds an implementation
# that appears to support the extension of the ROM loaded.
# This could fail if ROM extensions overlap.
libretro_path = "/storage/.kodi/addons/emulator.retroarch/cores"

# Path to core options config file.
# This config file is used to expose core-specific options.
# It will be written to by RetroArch.
# core_options_path =

# Sets the "system" directory.
# Implementations can query for this directory to load BIOSes, system-specific configs, etc.
system_directory = "/storage/emulators/retroarch/system"

when i launch a game by ssh (retroarch.sh snes9x /storage/emulators/SuperMarioWorld.smc), in Xbox pad only work button 8 (input:menu_toggle)

could you help me?

thanks!!!

P.D. the name "xbox.cfg" is ok? or do i need to change it to "Microsoft X-Box 360 pad.cfg" for it works?

Hi gark81

First off, this project (which I call RetroPlayer after the new player core that allows for retro emulation) is distinct from the RetroArch project. RetroArch is an external program launched by Kodi, whereas RetroPlayer runs ROMs (and in the future streams games) directly in Kodi. For support on RetroArch under OpenELEC, I recommend the OpenELEC forum or the RetroArch forum at http://www.libretro.com .

Second, these .cfg files hurt my head. How should I know if the name should be xbmc.cfg or Microsoft X-Box 360 pad.cfg? How should anyone know aside from the developer? retroarch.cfg is 500 lines long. Holy flying fuck.

But wait! there's hope. I've always been amazed by AI and autonomous systems. An input system that can configure itself has been a dream of mine since I first painfully configured a joystick.xml file by extracting button IDs from a xbmc debug log.

Over the last month this dream has been slowly materializing. I'm developing an input system that is automatic in 99% of all cases, and learns from the remaining 1% to be fully zero-configuration as time goes on. Your SNES controller doesn't have enough buttons to emulate a 360 controller? Not a problem, virtual buttons can be created by holding, double-pressing, double-press-holding, and pressing multiple buttons at once. I borrowed Kodi's touchscreen gesture recognition engine, so even more gestures can be added in the future, like rotating analog sticks, tilting/flinging accelerometers, and sequential button combos.

The most popular configuration is available out-of-the-box, and any physical/virtual button mappings can be viewed (and eventually changed) in the GUI.

Sorry to say, but I hope this news has killed your motivation to get your .cfg files working Wink If you want to help out, post the craziest idea you have in the Input thread. This is one of the most challenging projects I've ever done, and brainstorming with you guys there has been invaluable in simply making this problem tractable.

Thank you very much for your comment "garbear"
I thought Retroarch and Retroplayer was "the same" because my English and knowledge in this field are very low.

Retroplayer is system "OpenELEC" with the emulation system integrated by default?
(if so, then it would have to do an installation from "0")

or is some kind of "addon" to add it to OpenELEC?

This is available for OpenELEC 5 (Kodi Helix 14)?
if you could spend some tutorial for beginners on how to do or integrate you would appreciate.

There is nothing to "integrate", its no addon. Once(!!!) its finished it will be a part of Kodi and thus a part of Openelec as well. The reason that there is no beginner guide is that this is simply not a beginner topic. This is the development forum - retroplayer and the topics here in general are in early develoment stage. You can try them and report problems and help with the development but it is far from finished...

Just to clear some things up for you:
* OpenELEC is an operation system
* Kodi (former XBMC) is a program that allows you to watch movies etc.
* RetroArch is another program that allows you to run certan emulators (like NES, SNES, n64 etc.)
* RetroPlayer will be the name of a feature within some future version of Kodi that allows you to run emulators in the way RetroArch does, this is in development right now

OpenELEC 5.0 does boot directly into Kodi and thus enables you to access your media on a TV using a pocket PC or sth like that.
Sure you can install OpenELEC on a normal PC, too.

You have 2 possibilities now:
* wait for Retroplayer to be ready to use for you
* let Kodi start RetroArch and ask in their forum about how to configure it

For the second one you would need to integrate RetroArch into your own OpenELEC build I guess Wink
Hope that clears things up for you.

Thanks a1rwolf!
Now i see it more clear

I think that now, i try to integrate Retroarch in kodi as i get it on OE4.2( xbmc gotham version)
But i will check for Retroplayer project development, and when it's will ready to use, i will try it

You can't "integrate" Retroarch into kodi - you can add Retroarch to OpenELEC by adding a new software package.
Don't know if there is a build out there which already has retroarch included...
Then you can write a simple python addon for kodi that starts Retroarch for you.

If you did not develop a pyhton addon til now you can find help here:
http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:HelloWorld_addon

You can than use the built-in function RunScript to execute an arbitary python wrapper script that starts Retroarch for you.
http://kodi.wiki/view/List_of_built-in_functions

Don't know if this is the easiest way to do it (I'm not an addon dev), but it should work.

Sorry, i'm not explaining correctly

When i said "integrate retroarch on openelec-kodi" i wish to say add retroarch as addon, and then use Advanced Launcher addon or RCB addon to launch retroarch emulators
