Kodibuntu - No Audio
#1
Hi Guys

I have an issue with an install of kodibuntu that I have just setup.

I am running Kodi 14.0 Git:ad747d9 (Compiled Dec 23 2014) which I have installed on a Dell Optiplex 790. I am using a display port adapter to HDMI which is then plugged into a Samsung TV. I then have an optical cable plugged directly into the TV and then into my surround sound. The audio is set to always pass through to the external speakers. I have tested this setup and it works fine with my other device (SKY TV).

The problem that I have is that no Audio is passing out whatsoever. I have used know good films and also radio, but it doesn't work.

I experienced this on a different box at work a few months back and I did fix it, but can not remember how.

I have ran:

sudo app-get update
sudo app-get upgrade

Everything appears to be upgraded, I think i installed a package and it then worked, but I forget precisely.

Here is the log file, there may be an error in there referring to the script failing for debug email. I did it via pastebin in the end.

I ran a video file (inbetweeners 2) as the test, no audio was played.

would anyone be able to have a look for me please and provide any suggestions

thanks
Dave

It's probably your passthrough setting, play with that.
Make sure your Audio device and Passthrough Audio device are correct.

1. Try bypassing your TV and plug the optical cable directly to your amp. Some TVs cant passthrough the sound coming from your htpc to the amp. So this would be my first test.

or

2. Be aware you set your settings level to "expert" and you enabled passthrough and selected passthrough device for your htpc

I suppose your amp doesnt have a hdmi in? If it has...why not using it?

Hi

sorry for the delay, i have been away with work.

Exist2Resist, i tried that mate. I have been through every configuration but it hasn't worked. i did test a 3.5mm jack from the PC to the amp and it did play so it is something along these lines.

David1977, the PC doesn't have an optical out on the back. i wouldn't be able to use this method. The amp does have a HDMI port, but it only a HDMI out, its a DVD combo you see.

I also have other devices which plug into the TV, then pass through to the amp. i did take the amp out of the picture though. i tried the PC > Display port adapter > cdmi cable> direct to TV.

i still didn't get any sound via the TV.

it is random, so it is possible that it is the display port adapter/hdmi cable combo or in fact a setting.

While the specs allow for audio over displayport, not many PCs do this. Are you sure yours does this ?
