You need to tell us which country you are in (as that will tell us whether you need ATSC, DVB-T/T2, ISDB-T etc.).

Also if you are running Android, then it isn't as simple as plugging in a USB TV tuner, as setting up the required TV backend on these devices isn't straightforward.

You need a PVR backend on your network to watch Live TV in Kodi

Some more information here http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=182218

Short answer is you can not run a PVR backend on Android yet.

I'm in the US. and the Gbox Mx2 is Android 4.2 I believe

So this PVR Backend... is this software or an actual Hardware device I need to add?

Depends what your cable provider is. What type of connection you want. Check tvfool.com or antennaWeb.org to check for ota service. I use a prime with cablevision. Fios is also an excellent provider for those with a prime. They have their own backend so no need to set one up. You can stream directly from them to kodi.

IMPORTANT:
The official Kodi version does not contain any content what so ever. This means that you should provide your own content from a local or remote storage location, DVD, Blu-Ray or any other media carrier that you own. Additionally Kodi allows you to install third-party plugins that may provide access to content that is freely available on the official content provider website. The watching or listening of illegal or pirated content which would otherwise need to be paid for is not endorsed or approved by Team Kodi.

PVR backends can either be a software application or it can be box/device that have the TV tuners which can decrypt/demux and either record or stream video to Kodi

Why do you not begin follow the links to the wiki which explains this and gives examples of PVR backends, we can not help you if you do not want to help yourself.

First read http://kodi.wiki/view/PVR

and then read http://kodi.wiki/view/PVR_backend

If you live in USA and do not have cable (clear QAM cable TV for unencrypted free channels) and only looking top view free channels then you should probably look into getting a digital ATSC terrestrial TV tuner supporting free over-the-air ATSC broadcast television

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_tel...errestrial
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Te..._standards
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Uni...n_networks

I don't live in the USA myself so I can not really recommend any specific USB-tuners, but you want to look for one that is compatible with Linux and supports digital ATSC for HDTV

http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/ATSC_USB_Devices

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-950Q looks like it might be a good option to use with Raspberry Pi, though be careful getting this exact model (not a newer nor older) for proper Linux support

http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Ha...V-HVR-950Q

Suggestions are to either get a complete new set-top box box/ network tuner device or build your own server with a Raspberry Pi plus USB-tuner and Tvheadend server software.

Vu+ set-top box or a SiliconDust HDHomeRun network tuner based solution would be more expensive than a Raspberry Pi but are also probably much easier to setup and maintain.

So if i install OpenElec on Gbox Mx2 it will work with a PRV and Live TV channels correct?

From what i read its not compatible with Android.
Bear with me I'm new to all this stuff, working on it

OpenElec comes with its own stripped-down version of Linux, which replaces Android unless there's some way to configure it as dual-boot. After that, though, you've got a dedicated, lightweight Linux machine that just boots straight into Kodi vs running Kodi on Android as you would now.

You can then use anything on Kodi that OpenElec/Kodi supports *on that chipset*. So, if there's a PVR available in OpenElec that runs as a plugin and has been compiled for your architecture (ARM more than likely), it'll work. PVR in Kodi is client-server - the addon in Kodi is the client, and the PVR backend software is the server. If you're still looking to have both client and server on the one box then that's the next thing to dig into: does the Mx2 OpenElec image come with e.g. tvheadend for ARM.
