Kodi v14.2 beta testing (includes fixes for crash problems seen in 14.0 & 14.1)
#31
I just saw the release post and noticed this.
Quote:In such cases please disable the webserver in settings. The developers are working on finding the underlying cause of this and hope is on the horizon. However because this is quite a deeply buried problem we are unlikely to be able to fix it for the 14.x series. We will make certain it will be fixed for 15.0.
Is there ANY way to go back to Xbmc at this point, or am i stuck with until from now on?
Regarding my Database and so on, im using a shared mySQL database on my NAS.
Since kodi not only crash at random but also broke me controlling it with my Sabertooth controller all i got is yatse and so on left to use it, so disable webserver is not an option, and tbh. im not sure i want to deal with the random crashes from back mid december all the way to kodi 15.

It will almost certainly be fixed and available in a nightly prior to 15.0 - the question is will that nightly come soon enough for it to make a difference for some.

I'm staying on Gotham for now until this bug can be fixed, and when it is fixed, I'll upgrade then (either via a nightly, or the next stable release).

Ive installed the 14.1 version and now its crashing after every episode.. Put show in queue, plays first episode flawless, next episode -> crash. Disabling webserver isn't really what i wanna do. Guess ill go back to the 14.0, and deal with the few crashes from time to time, until 15.0

Hi Karlson2K. I am still running your post #77 http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid1859923, from the old thread before this one. Hesitent to move on, with all other info I read, and no crash for me on that one.
What is your current recommendation? (wait for 15?, use nightly?, install 14.1?, etc)

I'm confused, according to twitter, this is all fixed? What's the deal, yes or no? What's the definitive thread for this, this one or ?

NOTE here's the link twitter referred to.

Is this *particular problem* fixed? One would think these 2 threads would be updated for those who don't use twitter to follow @xbmc?

if you actually read the content of the announcement you know that it's not fixed and there's no reason to update this thread

I didn't notice that at the time, sorry Martin.

This is the most disappointing thing I've heard from a software development team in a very long time. Why on earth would a crashbug not get priority?! Wow.

It's a very high priority. We had hoped it would be ready for v14.1, but a proper fix looks to be a bigger issue than we originally thought. It's taking more time, and the fix is likely to touch a lot of different code (and thus needs extra testing to make sure new bugs don't result from the fix).

Don't worry, because what we haven't really told people is that Kodi is going to try out a rapid release system, so v15 will be out before a v14.2 could be made. At the same time, extra care is going to be taken for skin and add-on compatibility, so not every new update won't bonk your system. There will be like 2-3 (maybe 4?) releases a year, if I understand correctly. In other words, you won't have to wait a year for a fix. It will be more like a few months at most (we hope, crossing fingers, you never know, etc).

If it can happen sooner, or some miracle fix happens that doesn't touch a lot of code, then who knows, but apparently this is a hard nut to crack.

Ned,

Thanks for the reply, I wasn't aware of a rapid release system and honestly, I'm not certain I see the value in increasing the version number for the sake of this but I'm not a developer.
Seems like a 14.1.1 or 14.2 fix but hey, whatever.

I don't think I use the web interface so I'm going to have to go into the options and disable it.

Thanks again, helpful as always.
#42
Yeah, I'm not sure why people think the first number has to increase so often, but either way, the end result will hopefully be more fixes, more stable releases, and less waiting.

We'll also endeavor to not make the same mistakes FireFox did when they first moved to rapid release ;)
#43
I generally find when software reverts to a 'need' to compulsively increase the version number, it starts decreasing in quality. (Generally)

I hope i hit right thread for this. Smile I installed newest version (14.1) last night and all worked like it should but then I noticed some little bug there's no posters for tv shows per seasons? I thought that it was just new version but then I installed again 14.0 and the problem is same. Something has changed over here?

Where are people having all these crash issues? I'm running Wondows and haven't had any real problems. Occasionally when I start Kodi it fails and crashes but no big deal, just restart and it works fine. The only time I've had it crash while in the program was when I was doing some testing of skin mods and kept refreshing. Or maybe when I'm doing a massive library refresh/update.

anyways, I posted this in the dev thread but I guess it should go here now. 14.1 has a bug causing dts-HD flags to be incorrect on the video OSD. I believe it's when using WASAPI passthrough but on the menu it shows (for example, LOTR Return of the King) dts-HD 6.1 but when you play the file and press 'I' for the info screen it displays the dts_HD 7.1 flag. Same for 5.1 files. dts-HD 2/0 shows up as 4.0. This only seems to happen for dts-HD files and not other audio formats that I've tested. Not a huge deal but slightly annoying.

Also, with Dolby Atmos coming along I've delved into creating flags based on file and path naming convention, similar to DVD and blu-ray source flags. I think this is something that should be built into Kodi going forward unless Atmos becaose a recognized audio format like dts and DD. I'm going to guess at the moment dts:X will be handled in a similar way as Atmos when it launches as well. Check out the working code here.
