How to configure sound for multiseat? Suggestions?
#1
I've spent considerable time working on multiseat with a linux mint 17.1 KDE install. The goal is a "two headed monster" where the main seat is a desktop user and the 2nd seat is Kodi feeding a TV etc. The main seat is fed from the intel graphics in the I7 chip, the second seat from a GT610 Nvidia card. I have the multi-seat working as far as separate video and usb control devices go but the audio has me stumped. I started off with the instructions at this blog: http://brainacle.com/updated-multiseatin...-boss.html But I've also been looking at http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Multiseat and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MultiseatX which both have some audio oriented configuration suggestions. I've found that the ubuntu.com scheme almost worked but after reboots, the various audio devices would not always show up. The Intel audio would disappear one time, the Nvidia the next. I have to wonder if it's a timing thing related to when the external display gets registered but that's just a guess.

Since a shared audio scheme wasn't working I also attempted to align the different sound cards to their appropriate "seats", without luck. I tried the script http://pastebin.com/nUwsxYEx but cannot seem to get it to work correctly. I won't go into all the gritty details yet of what I've tried but I have to wonder, what have others done to get this going? I'm not trying to do something very complicated like split one sound card in two. Simply correlating the HDMI audio for a given monitor to it's correct user is the goal.

A) A lot of the online blogs and how-to's are a few years old and some things do not line up correctly (locations of various files have changed for instance) and I wonder if there are some advances in the underlying pieces that can make this easier. I noticed that there is a folder in my install for systemd which is something I've heard could offer better multiseat control...

B) Can someone give an explanation of the current relationships between Kodi, pulseaudio, alsa and whatever other audio management software exists in Linux Mint? At one point I uninstalled pulseaudio but various things seemed to still auto configure. I know that's vague but I had the impression that I still wasn't in control of what was going where...
