Strange menu performance characteristics
#1
Hi,
I'm running a Core 2 Duo E6750 as my media center with an i915 graphics card and I'm running up to some very odd performance characteristics. In the main menu, with about 1% load on the cores, I'm getting ~6fps. But if I run "stress --cpu 1" (which means that I run a stress test on one CPU core) at the same time I get around 30fps in the main menu.

Does anyone know what causes this and how I can get the better performance at all times, without essentially disabling one core and causing it excess heat?

Most likely cpu governor foobar in combination with (software) mesa acceleration. Post your Debug Log, then we can at least see the installed versions.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
